Abstract: "Production of [rho]'s and [omega]'s in [pi]- + p and p + [letter p with a bar over it] interactions is discussed. The [rho] is presumably a J = 1-, 1 = 1 state and thus can decay into 2[pi]'s via a strong coupling. The [omega] is probably J = 1-, 1 = 0 which can also decay into 2[pi]'s via electromagnetic coupling. A theoretical description of this situation is presented in terms of coupled time-dependent Schroedinger equations which mix [rho] and [omega] states that are assumed to be isotopically pure at the time of production. The interference between the two resonances was found to have the effect of extending the 2[pi] spectrum toward the [omega] mass."

Report issued by the Brookhaven National Laboratory discussing a hazards report on replacing the research center's current fuel elements with new highly enriched elements. As stated in the introduction, "this report is a summary of the studies, both theoretical and experimental, which have been made so far of the nuclear properties of the "new" pile, of the stability of the new fuel elements, and of the safety and practicability of operation of the "new" pile" (p. 2). This report includes tables, and illustrations.

From introduction: "This brief paper deals with the subject of radial temperature differences for heat transfer to fluids flowing through concentric annuli under the following conditions and assumptions: a. constant heat flux; b. fully-established turbulent flow; c. heat transfer through inner wall only; d. physical properties independent of temperature."

Recent studies suggest that the primary action of insulin is on the permeability of cell membranes. This idea may account for the effects of the hormone in broken cell preparations as well as in tissue preparations with intact cells if the concept of the cell membrane is broadened to include endoplasmic reticular extensions and the membranes of subcellular organelles. Following on the initial demonstration that insulin was bound to muscle and the elucidation of the structure of insulin, evidence was presented that this binding involves a sulfur-sulfur linkage between hormone and target tissue. In the present work, skeletal muscle cell ghosts were prepared for use in studying the chemical nature of the attachment of insulin to a relatively pure cell membrane preparation.

Some numerical calculations have been done which permit the deduction of many properties of the synchrotron oscillation problem. For the presentation of the numerical results, it is useful to review the formulation framework to which the results are to be fitted. These are worked out for an arbitrary circular accelerator. The algebra woud have to be modified slightly to include straight sections but the numerical results are still useful.

Summary of miscellaneous updates related to the project. This includes information on the following. Simplified equations for modeling reactor conditions. Solubility tests involving thorium, bismuth, and protactinium. various other measurements and tests involving thorium, uranium, protactinium, bismuth, aluminum, and various other salts.

This technical report details and outlines the BGRR facility's operations and performance record over a period of twelve years. The author of this report finds that the reactor is "one of the most stable and dependable in the business." The report includes two figures.

Technique used in deriving values of the linac ball tuner settings to produce various fields is discussed briefly, and tables showing ball tuner change numbers and values used in making up the ball tuner change numbers are given.

This report describes the design procedure for a reflectometer or directional coupler to replace the probe part of the D07-1020 assembly used at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron linac. Mathematical treatment and diagrams of various reflectometers are included.

Use of the Smith chart in studying stub tuners is demonstrated. Several properties of the tuners are shown, and charts for various wave length spacings, tuning trajectories, and admittances are included.
