Calculation of Stagewise Contacting Systems (open access)

Calculation of Stagewise Contacting Systems

From abstract: General expressions relating product stream compositions to the operating conditions of countercurrent stagewise extraction columns are derived by an inductive method, and the conversion of the general equations to ones involving the particular case of constant extraction factor is demonstrated. For comparison, the derivation of simple column equations by the use of finite difference equations is included.

Scale-Up of Alternate HRT Core

"In order to determine the factors involved in the scale-up of cores with concentric inlet and outlet pipes, a 48 inch carbon steel flow model, geometrically similar to a 6 foot diameter core, has been assembled and tested...Visual studies were made of dye and gas behavior in the sphere, and quantitative measurements of point residence times were obtained through the use of conductivity cells actuating a Brush recorder. Static pressure drop across the core was measured."

Experimental Gas-Cooled Reactor: Preliminary Hazards Summary Report

From introduction: This report describes progress during the first quarter on all phases of the ANPP Code Development Program, Pressurized Water Task. The objective of this program is the development of a nuclear physical model and its calculation code for pressurized-water-cooled and moderated reactors to predict accurately reactivity, rod positions, and power distributions at operating temperatures, and reactor life from a nuclear standpoint.

Total Cloud Activity Measurements (open access)

Total Cloud Activity Measurements

Abstract: Gamma radiation detectors in three fixed ground stations and in a helicopter were used in an attempt to measure the total radioactivity as a function of time for the dust cloud produced by the Sulky event. Large plastic s cintillators, photomultiplier tubes, and crudely collimated lead shields were the basic components of the detectors. A constant- current, variable -voltage regulator circuit enabled the detectors to operate in very high as well as in low radiation fields. Because the Sulky event did not crater as expected, there was no large radioactive dust cloud for the detectors to observe. Instead a small dust cloud of relatively low activity was produced, followed immediately by a continuous stream of much more radioactive gas which flowed from the resulting pile of rubble for a considerable length of time.

Remark on the Radiative Muon Decay in the Theory With an Intermediate Vector Meson (open access)

Remark on the Radiative Muon Decay in the Theory With an Intermediate Vector Meson

"The problem of explaining the lack of radiative muon decay in an intermediate charged vector meson theory is discussed. A possible way of introducing the charged vector meson to the theory of weak interactions is outlined in which renormalization is retained. However, if this way is used, the anomalous magnetic moment is calculated to be large, which is in contradiction with expectation."
