Alert Systems for Missing Adults in Eleven States: Background and Issues for Congress

This report discusses the emerging development of nationwide alert systems to recover missing adults, such as those with mental impairment (such as Alzheimer's disease), developmental disabilities, or suicidal tendencies. This report provides an overview of such alert systems in 11 states: Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia. This report also provides a discussion of issues for Congress to consider with respect to the federal role, if any, in developing state alert programs for missing adults.

Wagon Brake.

Patent for a new and improved wagon-brake. This design consists "of a suitable support which is attached to the rear axle-tree, the brake which is pivoted to this support, the connecting-rod pivoted to the brake, and the operating lever pivoted upon a supporting bar which extends from one standard to the other . . . The object of [the] invention is to produce a wagon-brake which is simple in construction, effective in operation, and by means of which the driver can instantly apply the brake with great power" (lines 14-25).

Patent for a press-box for horizontal oil-presses that produces "a cake of even thickness and density, and without strain on any part of the box" (lines 11-13) that has "a box fitted with a strainer that will be more lasting, which can be cleaned without removing it form the box, or the box from the press, and to which the cake will not adhere; [and] to provide a box fitted with effective and economical means of raising the cake out of the box after it is pressed" (lines 13-20). This box is made out of metal.
