The potential for clean energy production using oxy-fuel combustion and integrated pollutant removal

Effective remediation of flue gas produced by an oxy-fuel coal combustion process has been proven at bench scale in the course of cooperative research between USDOE’s Albany Research Center (ARC) and Jupiter Oxygen Corporation. All combustion gas pollutants were captured, including CO2 which was compressed to a liquefied state suitable for sequestration. Current laboratory-scale research and the future of combined oxy-fuel/IPR systems are discussed.

Effect of Sb on the Properties of GaInP Top Cells

The summary of this report is that: (1) Sb can be used to increase V{sub oc} of a GaInP top cell; (2) the photovoltaic quality of GaInP is relatively unaffected by the presence of Sb; and (3) Sb-doped GaInP/GaAs tandem cells show promise for achieving efficiencies over 32%.

Efficient Organic Excitonic Solar Cells with Carbon Nanotubes Replacing In2O3:Sn as the Transparent Electrode

The conclusions of this report are that: (1) organic solar cells with efficiencies of up to 1.43% conversion efficiency that use no ITO and no PEDOT:PSS, are demonstrated; (2) a cell without ITO, but with PEDOT:PSS gave 2.6% conversion efficiency; (3) due to porous nature of SWCNT substrates, optimization of the active layer is essential; and (4) SWCNT electrodes bring one step closer the goal of a fully printable, organic solar cell.

Formation of ZnTe:Cu/Ti Contacts at High Temperature for CdS/CdTe Devices

The conclusions of this report are that Cu diffusion from a ZnTe:Cu contact causes good and bad things. The good (Cu in CdS < low 10{sup 18} cm{sup -3})--increase in CdTe N{sub A}-N{sub D} that leads to V{sub oc} and FF improvement. The bad (Cu in CdS > low 10{sup 18} cm{sup -3})--(1) possibly decreased of shunt resistance (?); (2) depletion width in CdTe can become too narrow for optimum current collection at J{sub MPP}; (3) donor reduction in CdS (significant FF loss in LIV); and (4) excessive Cu diffusion into CdS readily observed by red-light bias QE.
