Patent for a new and improved axle-box for locomotives. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a pedestal, of an axle-box mounted to slide vertically in the said pedestal, a second axle-box mounted with one side in a bearing in the said pedestal, and a connecting-rod secured to the last-named axle-box and pivotally connected with the first-named axle-box" (lines 67-73).

Patent for "an inexpensive form of car-seat, wherein the parts are so arranged that the back of the seat may be adjusted to almost any angle desired, a leg or foot rest, which also may be adjusted to suit the convenience of the occupant of the seat" (lines 7-13).

Patent for a new and improved door for railroad cars. This design consists in "a car having a door-opening, top and bottom tracks, and perpendicular door-posts, one post provided with a series of recesses in its side next to the opening and the other having recesses in its outer side or side nearest the end of the car . . . the door sliding on said tracks and having forwardly-projecting cleats on its front edge to enter the recesses in the first-named post, and provided on its inner side at its opposite end with cleats projecting toward its front edge to enter the recesses in second-named strip" (lines 83-95).

Patent for a new and improved beverage shaker and mixer. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the frame provided with arms at right angles thereto and the main drive-wheel journaled therein, gear-wheels journaled at the ends of the arms, provided with wrist-pins and meshing with the drive-wheel, a shaker-bar connected to the wrist-pins of the gear-wheels and having a loop or opening for the insertion of the shaft of the drive-wheel, and the cups or tumbler-holders attached rigidly to the shaker-bar" (lines 27-36).

Patent for "a machine having a main frame and a driving-gear with interchangeable planting, cultivating, stalk-cutting, and cotton-chopping mechanism, whereby the machine is adapted to be used for a variet of purposes" (lines 15-20).

Patent for "a novel planting mechanism for planting either corn or cotton-seed, at the pleasure of the operator, by a simple adjustment of parts, and thereby adapt the machine for sowing different kinds of seeds and save the farmer the expense of two different machines" (lines 19-25).

Patent for a new and improved back and leg brace. This design consists in "the combination of the belt, the straps secured to the belt, [other] straps secured to the [same] belt and extending downward V-shaped, the links at the lower ends of the straps, the [other] strap, the pads attached to the lower ends of the straps, and the necessary buckles to secure and adjust the device to the body of the wearer" (lines 54-62).

Patent for "improved and simple means for automatically and positively coupling the adjacent ends of railway-cars together" (lines 25-27).

Patent for a new and improved planter. This design consists in "the combination, with the hopper and the seed-slide therein having one end projecting from one end of the hopper, of the reciprocating yoke having its rear portion angular in cross-section and its front portion cylindrical in cross-section and having an arm at one end to engage the opening in the projecting end of the seed-slide, the angular and cylindrical bearings for the respective parts of the yoke, whereby the latter may be unshipped from or attached to the seed-slide, and the mechanism to reciprocate the yoke" (lines 71-83).

Patent for improvements in trucks for carrying bricks.

Patent for a new and improved tuck creasing and marking attachment for sewing machines. This design "is to provide a simple and effective tuck creaser or marker to be operated directly by the needle-bar of a sewing machine; and it consists, essentially, of a creaser and an arm attached to the needle-bar and carrying an indent-piece, which strikes the creaser to mark or crimp the tuck. The creaser is formed upon a slide adjustable upon a graduated plate or bar attached to the plate of the sewing machine" (lines 15-24).

Patent for "a truck mounted upon wheels, to the reat end of which is adjusted a sifter that, as the machine is progressing, will have lateral reciprocating motion imparted thereto and eject powder through an attached meshed screen" (lines 10-15).

Patent for a new and improved wheel. This design consists in "inner spokes [that] are inclined outwardly, and the outer spokes [that] are inclined inwardly toward their remote ends, whereby compression of the rim of the wheel is transformed into lateral thrusts on the hub, and the lateral thrusts counterbalance each other" (lines 45-51).

Patent for "a compound to be used as a gargle or wash in the treatment of the mouth, throat, &c., when the mucous membrane of the said parts is affected by the use of tobacco, opium, or morphine, alcoholic drinks, &c., and also in cases of indigestion, dyspepsia, malarial, and typhoid fevers, &c. (lines 8-14).

Patent for a new and improved milk cooler. This design consists in "the combination, with the body or frame provided with water-troughs, of the jacketed cans having the upper ends of their jackets extending into the troughs, and an air-collecting device arranged . . . to collect and direct the air against the exposed jackets" (lines 14-21).

Patent for a new and improved wire splicer. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the casing, of the wires entering the casing at the opposite sides of the respective ends and bent in opposite directions, so as to interlock within the casing, said casing being bent down . . . at each end" (lines 62-67).

Patent for invention of new and useful improvements of Push-Bars for Locomotives for coupling to car

Patent for a new and improved tank. This design consists in "the combination of the wooden bottom having cross-braces on its under side, the sheet-metal bottom arranged over the wooden bottom and having an annular flange nailed or secured to said wooden bottom, and the metallic body, the lower end of which is connected to the bottom by nails, while the extreme lower edge of said body is turned under the wooden bottom between the cross-braces of the latter" (lines 80-90).

Patent for a new and improved syringe. This design consists in "[a] syringe provided with a reservoir at the end of the piston-rod outside of the syringe-barrel, said reservoir communicating through the piston-rod with a fibrous piston-head and adapted to contain a suitable liquid, whereby said piston-head is kept continually moistened" (lines 62-68).

Patent for a new and improved nut lock. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the loop-formed nut-locking device and the plate to which it is hinged, of the supplementary locking device, consisting of a wire or rod having one end bent at right angles and embracing the hinge of the main device and its other end provided with a hook to receive the side bar of the main device" (lines 37-44).

Patent for a new and improved motor. This design consists in the reciprocating "bar, the shaft mounted in the lower portion of the chair, the drum on said shaft, cord coiled around the drum and connected to the bar, the rest secured to the upper end of the bar, and the spring coiled around the said bar between the chair-seat and the rest" (lines 1-6).

Patent for improvements in the construction and design of hillside-plows.

Patent for a new and improved sash-fastener. This design consists in "the rack-bar, the pawl consisting of a metallic strip bent into substantially triangular form, one of the angles engaging the rack-bar, the pivot-screw passed through an eye formed at the upper angle of the pawl, and a handle at the remaining angle of the pawl, a stop-pin inserted through the pawl in rear of the engaging-point, and a spring to hold the pawl normally in engagement with the rack-bar" (lines 11-20).
