Increasing Thermocouple Reliability for in-Pile Experiments (open access)

Increasing Thermocouple Reliability for in-Pile Experiments

Abstract: The results indicated that increased reliability can be obtained by using thermocouples made with insulation of increased density and/or a low thermal expansion sheath.

Ground Level Concentrations in the Vicinity of a 185 ft Stack (open access)

Ground Level Concentrations in the Vicinity of a 185 ft Stack

Field tests were conducted to measure short-period pollutant concentrations at several stack heights during conditions of marked atmospheric instability and low wind speeds. The source was a mechanical smoke generator located at the 185-ft level of a tower.

Autoxidation of Uranous Salts in Water Solution (open access)

Autoxidation of Uranous Salts in Water Solution

From introduction: "The fact that tetravalent uranium either in the form of solutions of its salts or, in some cases, in the dry state is readily oxidized by gaseous oxygen, has been observed by various investigators. A quantitative study of this reaction appeared to be desirable as a means of learning more about the nature of the ionic species present in uranous solutions. It was also of potential value in determining the importance of autoxidation as an undesirable side reaction involved in the handling of uranous solutions, and, if necessary, in developing procedures for minimizing the reaction."
