Preliminary Report of Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Granitic Rocks in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California (open access)

Preliminary Report of Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Granitic Rocks in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California

From abstract: A reconnaissance to determine the uranium content of granitic rocks in the western states was made during parts of October and November 1951. The paucity of our knowledge of the granitic rocks that are most likely to contain significant quantities of uranium has prevented all but a very general isolation of areas or types of granitic rocks for reconnaissance examination.

Preliminary Report on the Mineral Hill Monazite Deposits, Lemhi County, Idaho (open access)

Preliminary Report on the Mineral Hill Monazite Deposits, Lemhi County, Idaho

From abstract: The Mineral Hill monazite deposits, 3 to 5 miles northeast of the town of Shoup, Lemhi County, Idaho, were investigated by the U. S. Geological Survey in July 1952. The deposits are replacement veins and lenses along shears in a pendant, principally of pre-Cambrian biotite gniess, about 4 to 5 miles in size and enclosed by granite of the Idaho batholith. The veins consist predominantly of calcite, monazite, and allanite, and contain minor quantities of barite, magnetite, rutile, and apatite.

Long-Term Surveillance Plan for the Lowman, Idaho, Disposal Site. Revision 1 (open access)

Long-Term Surveillance Plan for the Lowman, Idaho, Disposal Site. Revision 1

The long-term surveillance plan (LTSP) for the Lowman, Idaho, Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project disposal site describes the surveillance activities for the Lowman disposal site, which will be referred to as the Lowman site throughout this document. The US Department of Energy (DOE) will carry out these activities to ensure that the disposal cell continues to function as designed. The radioactive sands at the Lowman site were stabilized on the site. This final LTSP is being submitted to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as a requirement for issuance of a general license for custody and long-term care for the disposal site. The general license requires that the disposal cell be cared for in accordance with the provisions of this LTSP. The LTSP documents whether the land and interests are owned by the United States or a state, and describes, in detail, how the long-term care of the disposal site will be carried out through the UMTRA Project long-term surveillance program. The Lowman, Idaho, LTSP is based on the DOE`s Guidance for Implementing the UMTRA Project Long-term Surveillance Program, (DOE, 1992).

Effects of Alterations to Low Gradient Reaches of Utah Streams (open access)

Effects of Alterations to Low Gradient Reaches of Utah Streams

This report describes an investigation of the effects of stream channelization on fish and macro-invertebrates in low gradient reaches of Blacksmith Fork River and the Logan River in the floodplain of Cache Valley in northern Utah. Channelization adversely affected both fish and macro-invertebrate populations and biomass, with the severity of impact directly related to the amount and duration of disturbance of the physical habitat.

Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Small Drainage Basins in Idaho (open access)

Magnitude and Frequency of Floods in Small Drainage Basins in Idaho

Abstract: A method which relates basin characteristics with peak flow characteristics is presented for determining magnitude and frequency of floods on streams with drainage areas between 0.5 and 200 square miles. Regression equations for each of eight regions are presented for determination of the 10-year flood. Peak flows for the 25- and 50-year floods can then be estimated from ratios developed for each region. Regression equations are not developed because of poor definitions for several areas that total about 20,000 square miles. The equations were based on multiple-regression techniques using annual peaks and basin characteristics for 303 gaged sites.
