Patent for a new and improved combined ventilator and chimney. This design consists in "[a] combined ventilator and chimney . . . composed of a central flue surrounded by an annular air-chamber, in the top and bottom of which are openings, flange, and case, provided with a water-shed or apron, in combination with [a] section consisting of a flue or chimney, having its lower end inserted in the flue of the ventilator and extending therefrom above the roof, and covered with a cap or caps, and its juncture with the ventilator protected by a downward-projecting hood" (lines 38-49).

Patent for a new and improved automatic car brake. This design "consists, first, in the combination of the draw-heads . . . connecting-rods . . . and a partially-rotating shaft provided with suitable slotted cams, which cams are attached to the brake-beams, so that when the draw-heads are forced inward or drawn out the brakes will move out of contact with the wheels; second, in the combination, with the slotted cams and a mechanism for moving them, of the rods which are connected thereto, and which pass through the brake-beams, the sliding sleeves, the springs, and the nuts" (lines 13-27).

Patent for a combined hay-press and horse-power with illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved bale-band tightener. This design "is to produce a device by which one person may with ease draw a band tightly around a bale of cotton or other merchandise, in place of one that has by accident been broken" (lines 12-16).

Patent for a new and improved vehicle wheel. This design "consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a brace consisting of two rings secured together, and having recesses in their meeting sides, and provided with a number of brace-rods passing to one or two rings secured upon the hub of a vehicle-wheel, the spokes fitting in the recesses in the meeting sides of the rings" (lines 19-27).

Patent for a new and improved machine for stretching and removing fence wires. This design "is to provide a simple, effective, and inexpensive machine for stretching the wires of fences along the fence-posts, and straining the wires taut while they are being fastened to the posts, and also for removing the wires from the posts when required, as in removing or resetting a fence" (lines 8-14).

Patent for a new and improved screw for a wheel or felly. This design "relates to screws for setting vehicle fellies or rims on the tenons of the spokes; and its object is to provide a device possessing superior advantages in point of simplicity, ease of adjustment, and general efficiency, whereby one [person] can easily and conveniently set the rim" (lines 9-15).

Patent for a new and improved hydraulic excavator. This design "consists in combining a submerged propeller-wheel with a water-jet tube having a flexible connection with the supply-pipe, so as to permit the water-jet tube to rise and fall . . . and also move laterally, whereby the tube will, when it meets an obstruction, yield sufficiently to prevent breaking, jarring, or injuring any of the parts, the water-jet tube and propeller bearing such relative positions to each other that the . . . obstructions disengaged by the jet will be held in suspension . . . and carried off by the natural current" (lines 14-27).

Patent for reduction of movements in an improved telephone call box with illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved steam-heated evaporator. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the receptacle, the chest inclosing the receptacle, the coil surrounding the chest, the vat containing the chest and coil, the pipe having branches communicating, respectively, with chest and coil, and cocks, for controlling the passage of steam to the chest and coil, and the pipe for condensing the vapor from the receptacle" (lines 60-68).

Patent for a new and improved refrigerator. This design "consists, essentially, in a series of vessels surrounded or enveloped by fibrous material, dipping into a water-vessel above, and serving to maintain a constant supply of water to the exterior of the vessels through capillary action, the water being caused to pass down in such quantity as to drip from the bottoms of the vessels and collect in a second tank supplying a second series of vessels in the same manner, and finally to collect in a suitable vessel below, intermediate filtering apparatus being provided or not, as required" (lines 9-20).

Patent for a new and improved railroad switch. This design "consists in securing the short switch-rail to a long guard-rail, instead of pivoting it to the end of the sliding-rail or supporting-plate, the said guard-rail having the end remote from the short switch-rail spiked securely to the track, and the end carrying the switch-rail provided with lever or other moving devices whereby the switch-rails are thrown" (lines 21-29).

Patent for a new and improved drag saw. This design "is to provide a simple, inexpensive, durable, and easily-operated machine for cross-cutting timber for railway-ties and material, or for cord-wood, stove-wood, or other uses" (lines 7-11).

Patent for device that converts "motion of the piston-rod in steam engines into a rotary motion" (lines 10-11).

Patent for a new and improved cotton press. This design "consists of a horizontal press with reciprocating follower, worked by power, the press being arranged to receive the cotton from a chute descending from the floor above the press, the said press and the driving mechanism being constructed and arranged . . . specifically" (lines 7-13).
