From introduction: This study was undertaken as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Reactor Hazards Reduction Program. One of the goals of this program is to contribute to the growing recognition and cataloging of Cenozoic faults in the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Once the faults are recognized and cataloged, the stress field and resulting tectonic framework that produced these faults can be determined. This study defines the stratigraphic and structural relationships of a tectonically anomalous area in the vicinity of Hopewell, Va.

This report evaluates the quality of the ground water in seven small contiguous stream basins in the coal area of Buchanan County, Virginia.

From abstract: This study used a rainfall-runoff model to determine if land-use changes associated with surface mining in the Tug Fork basin have affected basin streamflow characteristics.

Part 3 of Technical Report CERC-83-1 describes the general cartographic process used to produce the shoreline position digital data base and maps from which the attached set of 18 composite shoreline position map reproductions were made. The report also describes quality control methods, potential error sources, and probable ranges of error for this process.

From abstract: This abbreviated data report presents results of ground water, surface water, and stream sediment reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Bluefield 1* x 2 quadrangle. Surface sediment samples were collected at 886 sites, and surface water samples were collected at 595 of these sites. Ground water samples were collected at 1374 of these sites. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, for uranium and 8 other elements in ground water, and for uranium and 9 other elements in surface water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps.

From Introduction: "The Greensboro Quadrangle is in North Carolina and Virginia between lat. 36ºN. and 37ºN. and long. 78ºW. and 80ºW. (Fig. 1). The quadrangle was evaluated to identify and delineate areas favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits."
