From abstract: This report documents a monitoring program to assess the effectiveness of SEASCAPE®, an artificial seaweed for temporarily stabilizing the shoreline fronting the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

From abstract: Data were collected at three sites on the Black River near Dunn, North Carolina, to define the effects of channel excavation on water-quality characteristics and on ground-water levels in nearby areas. Background data were collected at a site upstream from the 5-mile-long excavated reach. Changes in hydrologic characteristics were determined from data collected before, during, and after the construction period 1976-81. Significant changes occurred in shallow ground-water levels, streamflow velocities, water temperatures, dissolved oxygen, and suspended sediment; little or no change occurred in pH, dissolved solids, nitrogen, phosphorus, and bacteria.

From abstract: This report presents "a water-quality study of the Neuse River, based on data collected during 1956-77 at the U.S. Geological Survey stations at Clayton and Kinston, employs statistical trend analysis techniques that provide a framework for river-quality assessment." It includes maps, graphs, and tables.

From addendum: . Part 3 of Technical Report CERC-83-1 describes the general cartographic process used to produce the shoreline position digital data base and maps from which the attached set of 18 composite shoreline position map reproductions were made. The report also describes quality control methods, potential error sources, and probable ranges of error for this process.

From abstract: Detailed petrologic investigations were conducted at 74 anomalies that have surface radioactivities of 5 to 300 times background in the Grandfather Mountain region of North Carolina and Tennessee. One or more specimens of radioactive rock and one specimen of nonanomalous (barren) rock were taken for chemical analysis from each of the 74 sites.

From abstract: This abbreviated data report presents results of ground water and stream sediment reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Raleigh l x 2 quadrangle. Surface sediment samples were collected at 1199 sites. Surface water samples were collected at 124 of these sites. Ground water samples were collected at 907 sites. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, for uranium and 9 other elements in surface water, and for uranium and 8 other elements in ground water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps.

From Introduction: "The Greensboro Quadrangle is in North Carolina and Virginia between lat. 36ºN. and 37ºN. and long. 78ºW. and 80ºW. (Fig. 1). The quadrangle was evaluated to identify and delineate areas favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits."
