From Abstract: "The micaceous schist ores yielded concentrates containing 95 to 98 percent mica, with recoveries ranging from 70 to 83 percent. Part 1 of this report summarizes the process development work and demonstrates the feasibility of producing commercial-grade mica concentrates. The report also includes details of commercial beneficiation and grinding of mica. Also included in part 2 of this report are details of commercial mica production, including methods of mining, recovering, and grinding mica, and information on the production, uses, and prices of mica."

On December 8, 1977, Gruy Federal, Inc. took over the C.D. Hopkins et al. No. 2 well, located near Jesup in Wayne County, Georgia, to be deepened and used for geothermal temperature-gradient measurements. The well was drilled from 4,009 to 4,341 feet, then diamond cored to 4,371 feet, 28 feet of core being obtained for analysis. After logging by the USGS District Groundwater Office in Atlanta, the well was terminated with 3 1/2 inch tubing to 4,386 feet. Scientists from Virginia Polytechnic Institute determined the bottom-hole temperature to be 60 C (140 F) at 1,331 meters (4,365 feet). Over the interval 47-1,331 meters (154-4,365 feet) the least-squares temperature gradient was 29.3 {+-} 0.14 C/km (1.61 {+-} 0.25 F/100 ft).

Abstract: "This report summarizes the importance of common species of salt marsh plants inhabiting wetlands of the eastern U.S. coast. An evaluation of the ecological significance of the plants is based on their rates of primary production, morality, and contribution of detritus to the estuarine dependent systems. The data are important in reaching decisions relative to the deposition of dredged material in these coastal wetland systems."

From introduction: In this study on raw material sources of uranium the Southern Interstate Nuclear Board has catalogued all known occurrences of uranium and some references to thorium in a 17-state area (P1. 1). These occurrences have been evaluated as potential sources of uranium by the State Geological Surveys and the consultant group of SINB. Favorability guides have been applied to the known occurrences and recommendations have been made for future action by the states involved, federal agencies, or by industry. State recommendations are included in state-by-state summaries. The state reports were written either by personnel of the State Geological Surveys or were abstracted from State geological survey data by members of the consultant group...The purpose of this study was to compile information on and systematically assess uranium and other radioactive occurrences in the region. The SINB undertook the project because of its statutory, interstate capability as an extension of government in each of the 17 states, an arrangement that lends itself effectively to this cooperative undertaking.

From purpose of the report: The purpose of this report is to present the available information regarding the relation between the rate of ground-water withdrawal and the rate of decline or artesian pressure in a 40-foot "shell" limestone aquifer that was dewatered during construction of Walter F. George Lock and Dam...The report indicates a potential source of a large supply of ground water available for industrial and other uses in an area readily accessible by barge transportation from the Gulf of Mexico to Columbus, Ga.
