As stated in the summary, "this paper describes the mineral deposits and discusses mining and milling methods and related operating conditions in an important gold, silver, lead, and zinc producing area in Ouray, San Juan, and San Miguel Counties, Colo., embracing 250 square miles" (p. 5). Over the past decade or so the evolution and equilibria of persistent decks of stratocumulus climatologically clinging to the edge of summertime subtropical highs has been an issue of increased scientific inquiry. The particular interest in the microphysical structure of these clouds stems from a variety of hypotheses which suggest that anthropogenic influences or biogenic feedbacks may alter the structure of these clouds in a manner which may be climatically significant. Most hypotheses regarding boundary layer influences on climate have been formulated by an examination of the solution space of simple models. The earliest hypothesis of this sort (and the one on the most solid footing) is due to Twomey (1974), who posited that enhanced concentrations of CCN could lead to enhanced droplet reflectivity and enhanced albedos in clouds of modest optical depths. In low lying clouds where the albedo effect dominates, the climate sensitivity to a robust perturbation in cloud albedo may be significant. One of the primary objectives of this current research has been to explore the hypothesis of Twomey. "This report summarizes published geotechnical properties of raw and retorted oil shales from the Green River Formation. Basic physical properties including gradation, specific gravity and Atterberg limits and engineering properties including compaction, permeability, settlement, soundness, and strength are summarized and discussed. Where appropriate, conclusions are drawn about the suitability of retorted oil shales as a geotechnical construction material. Appendix A discusses three retorting processes used to extract oil from oil shale" (abstract, para. 2-3).

Abstract: This report is a synthesis of published and unpublished data on the rocks of the Anadarko basin.

Three laser research programs are proposed: (1) to find new laser systems in the wavelength region between 2000 and 4500 A; (2) to attempt scaling lasers to high output power; and (3) to focus research on metal vapor laser systems which have promise of high efficiency. Twenty-eight new laser transitions from Cu II spanning the wavelength region from 2486 to 7988 A have been observed. A list of papers and conferences are given that summarize the metal vapor laser research. (TFD)

From abstract: The U. S. Geological Survey made a geophysical investigation on the Gramlich group, Paradox district, Montrose County, Colo., during the period May 26 to July 11, 1952.. Electrical resistivity and self-potential surveys were made to determine the thickness of the upper Salt Wash sandstone and to test electrical prospecting methods in an area of shallow overburden. The investigations were made in conjunction with a diamond-drilling program.

From abstract: A reconnaissance radiometric survey of parts of the northwestern San Juan Mountains has revealed the occurrence of uranium-bearing ores in several mining districts in Ouray and San Juan Counties, and the occurrence of thorium-bearing veins in southwestern Gunnison County.

From abstract: Pitchblende is known to occur in the Jo Reynolds deposit, which was primarily a lead-zinc-silver ore body. The reported production in 1919 of 8 tons of high-grade uranium ore, presumably from the lowest workings of the mine, is still unconfirmed but has a fair degree of credibility.

From abstract: "In the Yampa River basin, Colorado-Wyoming, 35 major reservoirs and 2 transmountain diversion have been proposed to provide additional water for increasing uses. A multireservoir-flow computer model was used to simulate effects on streamflow of five potential options--one representing historical conditions and four representing various degrees of reservoir and transmountain-diversion development." It contains maps and tables.

From introduction: This report describes work done in the Denver and Greeley National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) quadrangles (1:250 000 scale) by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) as part of the nationwide Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR).

From summary: The University of Colorado, under contract with the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL), is currently performing an evaluation of geochemical relationships of water and sediments and seasonal variations to uranium for the South Platte drainage of northeastern Colorado. As a preliminary part of this study, samples were collected from 125 sites near Sterling and Fort Morgan, Colorado, during the period from December 20, 1976, to January 15, 1977. During this period the weather in the area was clear to partly cloudy, with daytime temperatures ranging from -12 to 12 C. Only a trace of precipitation, in the form of very light snow flurries, occurred during the sampling period. The sample site locations and numbers (the first two digits have been omitted) are shown on Plate I.

This report is a preliminary evaluation of the uranium resources of the Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation of Late Jurassic age in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. The project, which began July 1, 1976, and was completed October 1, 1976, was carried out by the Bendix Field Engineering Corporation (BFEC) for the Grand Junction Office of the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA).
