Carrier Iron for Draw Bars.

Patent for a new and improved carrier iron for draw-bars. This design "is to provide an improved draw-bar support exceedingly strong and durable in construction and very cheap and simple which will prevent spreading of the draft-timbers or sagging of the draw-bar and which can be reversed" (lines 19-24). It consists in "[t]he combination, in a car, of the draft-timbers, the draw-bar between the same, and the loop-shaped carrier-iron in one piece embracing said timbers and passing above and below and supporting the draw-bar and secured to said timbers by bolts" (lines 78-83).

Patent for "improvements whereby the sparks from a locomotive will be passed directly from the flues through the stack and the outer air will be admitted, which will keep the cinders in motion and force them through fine perforations and against the hard surfaces until they are thoroughly pulverized and all the fire therein is extinguished, and which .will thereby prevent the danger to combustible products by fire thrown from an engine and which will not in any way decrease or interfere with the efficient work of the locomotive" (lines 17-29).

Gate Latch.

Patent for a new and improved gate latch. This design "will automatically lock the gate or door when swung closed and which will firmly hold the same, which can be readily opened by hand or otherwise" (lines 17-20). It consists in "[t]he latch consisting of the case, the two triangular catches, the transverse pivots therefor in the lower outer corners of the case, the rigid stops at the lower outer corners of the case to prevent outward swing of said catches, the inwardly and laterally extending arms at the upper inner end of said catches, and the horizontal lifting-bar normally resting on said pivots" (lines 24-32).
