Patent for a new and improved filter. This design is for "[a] filter consisting of sections secured together at their meeting edges by a lapped joint, the upper edge of [a] section being fitted wholly within [another] section and forming a shoulder for the support of a screen-plate, and the body of filtering material above, a shoulder on [a] section below [the] shoulder, and screen plates resting on and held to the shoulders by the weight of the body of filtering material, whereby, when the filter-sections are inverted, the [other] shoulder serves to support [the] screen and the filtering material above" (lines 45-56).

Water Elevator.

Patent for a new and improved water-elevator. This design "has for its object to provide for the escape of the air initially held in the upper bends of the screw, so as to relieve the same of the pneumatic pressure caused thereby in connection with the ascending water, thus causing less resistance to the rotation of the screw, enabling it to be operated by decreased motive power" (lines 11-18).

Sinking Hydraulic Piles.

Patent for new and improved sinking hydraulic piles. This design has for its object "the sinking of wooden or other piles in quicksand or ground in which the lateral pressure upon the piles practically prevents their being driven beyond a certain depth. To that end [the design] make[s] use of a jet of water supplied at the entering-point of the pile, and in connection therewith [the design] also use[s] weight applied at the upper end of the pile" (lines 8-16).

Cartridge Belt.

Patent for a new and improved cartridge belt. This design "is to provide a new and improved cartridge-belt for holding cartridges securely, the said belt being simple in construction, strong, and durable. The invention consists in the combination of a belt, with a strap held on the same by up-right metal fasteners and forming pockets on the belt. The invention also consists in the combination, with the above belt and strap, of a cord passed transversely through the several pockets, and in other combinations of parts" (lines 11-18).

Lift or Elevator.

Patent for a new and improved elevator. This design "consists in the construction of the operating mechanism . . . whereby the mechanism may be regulated or adjusted to run fast or slow, according to the weight of the load to be carried, it being adjusted to run slow, but with great power, when heavy loads are to be lifted, but to run fast, but with lesser power, when lighter loads are to be lifted" (lines 28-37).
