Patent for "a system of producing heat for kilns, furnaces for burning lime, furnaces for boilers, and similar purposes, and the object is to provide apparatus for consuming all the fuel fed to the furnaces and for pre-heating the air which is fed to the furnaces and for excluding all air which has not been preheated" (lines 8 - 15).
