Abstract: "The energy gained by a deuterium plasma, from a three megacycle per second radiofrequency field, was studied experimentally. A static magnetic field, in the form of a "mirror", was used. The coil of an rf resonant circuit, placed at the center of the machine produced a time-varying magnetic field parallel to the static field. This, in turn, induced an electrical field, in an azmuthal direction, which acted on the ions. When this was in synchronism with the cyclotron frequency, the ions could pick up energy. At this resonance the light intensity from the plasma increased markedly. This effect was used as evidence for the transfer of energy to the ions."

The following report covers a chemical study that was made of the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation of Jurassic age in the Jo Dandy area, Montrose County, Colorado in 1954. The chemical study was made to investigate the distribution of elements in the host rocks with emphasis on the pattern of variation as related to the position of known ore bodies, and to determine average concentrations of some of the elements in the major rock types.

This report is a bibliography divided into two sections: one that documents books and journal articles, the other containing classified and unclassified documents, that are based around gaseous detonation. These sources cover the period between 1941 to October of 1957.

The following report is preliminary in nature, discussing and analyzing traces of uranium in apatite and phosphorite.

Abstract: Uranium associated with peat humus was discovered in a boggy meadow in the Sierra Nevada of Kern County, California, in the fall of 1955.

Abstract: "The oxidation resistance of thin sheets of iron-28 w/o chromium-2.67 to 10.0 w/o alloys, nominally 0.004, 0.006, 0.008, 0.012, and 0.016 in. thick, was determined by exposure in static air for 100 hr at 2100 and 2300 F. A minimum of 3.67 and 9.37 w/o aluminum was necessary to prevent excessive oxidation of 0.004-in.-thick sheet material at 2100 and 2300 F, respectively. Correspondingly, specimens of lower aluminum content and greater thickness withstood the oxidation attack. Oxidation of iron-chromium-aluminum alloys appeared to be related to the diffusion of aluminum to surfaces of the sheet to form an adherent protective layer of Al2O3."

The following report covers notes on the Moenkopi formation of Triassic age that is widely exposed in the salt anticline region in the southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado. Within this report is the mapping of four members of contrasting lithology in the Moenkopi in the salt anticline region.

The continuous dissolution of 304 stainless steel and stainless steel-UO2 alloy in dilute aqua regia was studied with subsequent stripping of the dissolver product to remove chloride ion. The process has the advantage of producing, by means of a simple head end treatment, a solvent extract feed in a conventional nitric acid medium so that existing solvent extraction processes, materials of construction and waste disposal methods can be used. The purposes of this study were to investigate the variables affecting the dissolution process and to obtain dissolver scale-up data, and to investigate the removal of chloride from the dissolver product and the variables affecting the stripping operation. A continuous flooded pot dissolver was used. It has the advantages of stability of operation and ease of control in comparison with column dissolvers and requires a minimum of mechanical processing prior to dissolution. Stripping of the dissolver product to remove chloride ion was studied in a 4-in. diameter Pyrex bubble-cap column containing 12 single bubble cap plates. Continuous dissolution rates and dissolver product stainless steel loading were correlated with aqua regia feed composition, acid feed rate and surface area exposed to reaction. The following report discusses the problems of injection and the possibility of chemical reactions occurring upon contact between earth materials and typical high-level acid aluminum nitrate wastes, along with proposed methods of disposal of such wastes by injection into deep-lying, brine-saturated permeable beds (salaquifers).

The following report covers a reconnaissance for uranium and thorium in Alaska during the 1954 field season that consisted principally of a study of the radioactive beach placers east and west of Cape Yakataga, and ground and airborne radiometric traverses of portions of Kodiak Island and adjacent islands.

The following report summarizes a reconnaissance for uranium in Alaska during 1955 that included airborne radiometric traverses, examination of radioactivity anomalies found during the airborne traverses, examination of prospector leads, and examination of areas that seemed geologically favorable for the occurrence of uranium.

From introduction: The primary purpose of this report is to record the bases chosen in setting the Commission's policy on processing charges to assure that individual charges are on a consistent basis in conformance with the policy. Secondly, it may aid reactor operators in estimating the AEC processing charges for a variety of fuels and reactor conditions. It may also be of interest to potential chemical processors by showing the approach followed in developing these charges.

A general program has been written to plot curves on the Oracle curve plotter. The supplement includes changes to slow down some of the loops and minimize the possibility of read-around errors and changes to handle special cases.
