Abstract: Two uranium-bearing minerals, uranothorianite and thorite (?), were found in the stream gravels of the main branch of the South Fork of Quartz Creek, a tributary of the Kiwalik River. Although the bedrock source of the minerals was not located, the radioactive material was traced in slope wash well above the stream gravel. A detailed investigation of the area with more sensitive counters might reveal the source of the minerals and localities where the minerals are sufficiently concentrated to be minable.

From page 3: Uraniferous fluorspar pipes cut Paleozoic dolomite in the western part of the Thomas Range, along a ridge known locally as "Spor's Mountain". The fluorspar district (fig. 1) is approximately 50 miles northwest of Delta, Utah, and is in Tps. 12, 13 N., R. 12 W., Salt Lake principal meridian. From July to September 1952 approximately 10 man-months were spent in the district. During this time, field work started in 1951 was completed. Mapping and sampling the fluorspar deposits was done in 1950 (reported in TEI-136). The entire uraniferous fluorspar district has now been mapped at a scale of 1 inch to 1, 000 feet, the complete stratigraphic section of the district has been measured in detail, and additional mine mapping and sampling has been done.

From introduction: The Big Boulder prospect is in SE 1/4 sec. 36, T.7N., R.,72W., in Tarimer County, Colorado. The prospect has been opened by four irregular trenches and shallow cuts, and a 10-foot discovery shaft. Hanley 1/4 states that 10.5 tons of beryl were produced from the Big Boulder prospect in 1936, and about 600 pounds in 1941.

From introduction: The purpose of this work was to determine the distribution and reserves of pitchblende in the veins. These particular mines were selected because the other mines that had produced pitchblende in the east were either inaccessible, or accessible under such adverse conditions as to make detailed mapping impracticable.

From abstract: A reconnaissance for sources of radioactive material in North Dakota and eastern Montana was made in 1948. This reconnaissance was followed by a more detailed survey of parts of Golden Valley and Slope counties, southwestern North Dakota, in June 1949. The radioactivity of representative sections of all formations known to be exposed in the area and of three manganiferous spring deposits was determined with portable Geiger-Mueller counters. At 86 localities 82 samples were taken of these formations and also of 10 ground and surface waters.

Abstract: Secondary minerals of the uranite group occur in dense quartz veins and in altered aplitic granite along and near the crest of the east-trending ridge about one mile west of Clancy, Montana. Brief examination suggests that the radioactive minerals are erratically distributed, but a more thorough study of the area will be made by the Geological Survey during the coming field season.

Abstract: "As a result of inquiries by prospectors in 1948 concerning radioactive ores in the vicinity of Jakolof Bay on the Kenai Peninsula in southern Alaska, the Geological Survey conducted a brief investigation during 1949. No radioactive material was found. Possibly a chromite stockpile in this locality was mistaken for pitchblades."

Abstract: A radiometric reconnaissance, using a portable beta-gamma survey meter, of some geologic formations ranging in age from Cambrian to Cretaceous, and springs in southeastern Idaho, western Wyoming, and northern Utah, has shown that none of them are sufficiently radioactive to warrant further examination of them in the area.
