Stability of a Linear Pinch With a Thick Boundary (open access)

Stability of a Linear Pinch With a Thick Boundary

The stability of a linear pinch is investigated by means of the "6W" formalism of E. A. Frieman. It turns out that when attention is confined to the surface layers of the plasma, convenient stability criteria can be deduced for very general cylindrically symmetric distributions of magnetic field and plasma.

Status Report on the K-4 Magnetic Induction Machine

Due to laboratory interest in devices capable of production of high current with short rise times in gaseous discharges (plasmas), an experimental machine has been built and tested to obtain data applicable to the design of a high gradient magnetic induction machine. This machine consists of a condenser type energy storage bank air core coupled to a toroid in which the plasma is produced. It has been used to determine circuit parameters and the effect of these parameters on the plasma.

Taylor Instability in Shock Acceleration of Compressible Fluids (open access)

Taylor Instability in Shock Acceleration of Compressible Fluids

The initial growth of irregularities on an interface between two compressible fluids is studied for impulsive (i.e., shock) acceleration. It was found that the ultimate rate of growth is roughly the same as that given by the incompressible theory, if the initial compression of the irregularities and of the fluids is taken into account.

Time Behavior of Godiva Through Prompt Critical (open access)

Time Behavior of Godiva Through Prompt Critical

The transition region between short, but controlled, pile periods and uncontrolled, highly-supercritical conditions has been investigated with an unreflected, spherical uranium assembly (Godiva). This study was undertaken because knowledge of the behavior of supercritical systems is important in evaluation of reactor hazards and also the hazards of less standard operations involving possibly critical quantities of active material.

Uranium Concentrations in Stream Waters and Sediments from Selected Sites in the Eastern Seward Peninsula, Koyukuk, and Charley River Areas, and Across South-Central Alaska

During the summer of 1975, the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) conducted a 6-week reconnaissance in widespread areas of Alaska as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) program sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE). Water, stream sediment, and bedrock samples were taken from the eastern Seward Peninsula, from north of Koyukuk River, from the Charley River area, and from across south-central Alaska, to aid in determining the uranium potential of the state.
