This report discusses forests and treats the topic in four parts. The first part describes the life of an individual tree, and the second describes individual trees as parts of a forest. The third and fourth parts discuss forests as communities of trees and methods for preventing destruction of forests.

Report describing the cotton bollworm, an enemy of the cotton plant, especially in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Discussion includes the bollworm's consequences for both cotton and corn as well as effective and ineffective methods of controlling it.

Report discussing the use of the cream separator on farms in Kansas and Nebraska, which have substantial dairy industries but are not typically considered dairy-producing states. Advantages of the cream separator, its care and management, milk and cream production on the farm, and delivery of cream to markets are discussed.

Report discussing the cotton bollworm, which is very destructive to the cotton plant, especially in the Southwestern states in the Cotton Belt of the United States. Contains reports on fieldwork conducted at two stations in Texas and a discussion of effective and ineffective methods of control.

Report promoting and explaining the role of forest planting in farm management. Planning preparations and model prairie farm are proposed. A farm in Ohio is used as an example of successful forest planting techniques in managing a farm. In addition, types of trees and planting methods are recommended.

"In the United States there is a growing market for guinea fowl as table birds, and therefore it has seemed desirable to summarize the available data regarding them. At some of the American experiment stations studies have been made of the composition of the flesh and eggs of this class of poultry, but so far as can be learned no tests have been made of their food requirements, the comparative value of different rations, or the best systems of care and management. Standard poultry books and files of poultry journals contain some references to guinea fowl and methods of feeding and caring for them, but the information thus available is meager and widely scattered. In the present bulletin such data have been summarized, as well as information secured by correspondence and in other ways. The discussions of the preparation of guinea fowl and guinea eggs for the table, and the character and quality of the cooked products are in considerable part based on experiments especially undertaken for this bulletin by teachers of domestic science and others." -- p. 3

Report discussing methods for conserving water in soils of semiarid regions. Topics discussed include drainage, plowing practices, climate conditions in semiarid regions, irrigation, dry farming, and crops best suited to semiarid regions.

Topics discussed include legislation concerning denatured alcohol, agricultural sources of industrial alcohol, the yield and composition of alcohol-producing crops, alcohol by-products, and the manufacturing process for alcohol.

Revised edition. This bulletin "is devoted to the description of the sources from which industrial alcohol may be made and the methods of [its] manufacture." -- p. 2. Topics discussed include legislation concerning denatured alcohol, agricultural sources of industrial alcohol, the yield and composition of alcohol-producing crops, alcohol by-products, and the manufacturing process for alcohol.

"It is important that the farmer should have a general idea of the uses to which industrial alcohol (usually denatured) may be devoted. While this information is not necessary for the production of the raw materials, it is nevertheless valuable in indicating the particular lines of industrial development which may be promoted by free alcohol in the arts as related to the welfare of agriculture. The technical uses of alcohol are extremely numerous, and no attempt will be made to give them all, but only to mention those which are of the greatest importance." -- p. 5. Topics include the use of alcohol for heating and illumination in stoves and lamps, as fuel for motors, as a product in farm operations, and as a drink. Statistics on alcohol production in the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany are included at the end.

Report describing a system of management on a successful hog and seed corn farm in Illinois. Topics discussed include shelters, watering devices, types of feed, farm labor, and expect financial results.

"Owing to the fact that there are not on the American market any engines designed especially for alcohol, the experiments so far made have been with alcohol in the gasoline and kerosene engines familiar to the American market. The purpose of these experiments is twofold: (1) To determine what can be done with alcohol in the existing engines, and (2) to learn what changes in the mechanism of the engines are necessary to secure the highest efficiency in the use of alcohol as a fuel. ...It has seemed best to publish as a Farmers' Bulletin the essential facts brought out by the experiments made, with some popular matter on the use of gas engines for farm purposes, leaving the details and the more technical results of the tests to be published later, and such publication is therefore recommended." -- p. 2
