Measurements of an Iron and Borated Water Shield in the Lid Tank : Experiment 10
The following report measures a shield mockup in three regions: the first made almost entire of iron; the second, transition, region is made of various thicknesses of B4C; and the third region was borated water. The iron samples used in the experiments were made in the form of rectangular plates and place in the lid tank; however, the plates were not completely flat and created a water gap that was measured in this report.

Engineering Study of Evaporation for Concentrating Radioactive Liquid Wastes : Engineering Research Final Report
Summary: "The problem of evaporation of secondary radioactive wastes resulting from waste disposal studies at Mound Laboratoy has been studied experimentally to determine the fundamental design characteristics of a plant size unit. Emphasis, of course, was on decontamination, but the factors affecting foaming and scaling also had to be investigated and evaluated. Generally speaking, the final design is a standard type of evaporator, the only unique feature being the relation of the two effects. Where critical, as affecting performance, the particular design features have been specified."

Reconnaissance Examinations of Copper Uranium Deposits West of the Colorado River
Several relatively small copper-uranium deposits have been found in southwestern Utah along the contact of the Shinarump and Moenkopi formations of Triassic age, at least from the San Rafael Swell area of Emery County, southward through central and eastern Garfield County, southwestward into western Kane County, and westward into the southern part of Washington County.

Preliminary Report on Some Uranium Deposits Along the West Side of the San Rafael Swell, Emery County, Utah
From introduction: Twelve uranium-bearing deposits were examined along 30 miles of the western border of the San Rafael Swell in Emery County, Utah, from September 21 to 29, 1950. The area examined lies in Emery County, east-central Utah, along the west flank of the San Rafael anticline (Fig. 1).

The Creep of Zirconium in Water
Introduction:"Very little is known about the mechanical properties of zirconium and, in view of this the Atomic Energy Commission requested Sylvania to evaluate the creep characteristics of this metal at various temperatures. Tests at room temperature (25 C) and at 200 C have been completed, the tests having been conducted in air. The data obtained from these tests form the basis of this report. Future tests will be conducted in an atmosphere of water at the desired testing temperature."

Part A. An X-ray Spectrometer for Use in Radioactivity Measurements, the L X-rays of Neptunium and Plutonium. Part B. Some Lighter Isotopes of Astatine
The following report contains two parts on the analysis of astatine, neptunium and plutonium. Part A discusses a bent crystal focusing X-ray spectrometer that has been designed and built for the observation of the X-and gamma-rays emitted in association with radioactive decay. The instrument uses proportional counter detection and is described, as well as associated electronic circuits. The plutonium L X-rays from Cm-242 and the neptunium L X-rays from Am-241 have been measures. Values of the energies and abundances are reported. Then in Part B, it discusses some isotopes of astatine hitherto unreported that have been observed in bombardments of bismuth on the University of California 184" cyclotron.

Heats of Formation of Some Aqueous Ions of Americium
Abstract: "The heats of formation of Pr-(+3) (aq.) and La-(+3) (aq.) have been measured in 1.5M HCl at 25 C. to be -165.9 +/- 0.9 kcal/mol and -167.0 +/- 0.7 kcal/mol, respectively. The heat of formation of Am-(+3) (aq.) under the same conditions was found to be -161.3 +/- 1.4 kcal/mol. The latter value made it possible to calculate the heat of formation of Am-(+4) (aq.) as -112.2 kcal/mol. It was impossible at this time to determine the heats of formation of AmO2+ (aq.) and AmO2++ (aq.)."

An Influence Function for the Beta Activity of Uranium(235) Fission Products
Abstract: "Computations have been made of the total beta activity of the fission products arising from the slow neutron fission of U-235. A curve is given exhibiting the activity the activity per unit fission, for time intervals after fission ranging from 0.01 second to 10 years. This influence function is compared with some published experimental data and with the statistical curve of Way and Wigner. A curve facilitates estimation of the activity in the particular case where the fission rate has been constant throughout a known time interval. Finally, an influence function for the particular group of fission products consisting of complete and partial chains having volatile first members is given. This report is based on studies conducted for the Atomic Energy Commission under Contract AT-11-1-GEN-8."

The Determination of Indium in Indium Plutonium Solutions
Abstract: "A gravimetric procedure is described for the analysis of indium-plutonium solutions. This procedure consists of a preliminary separation of the plutonium as the peroxide, followed by the quantitative precipitation of indium diethyl dithio carbamate from a slightly acid solution. The precipitate is dried at 105 C and weighed. Recoveries of 99.4 - 100.5% with an average precision of 2.3/100 were obtained on known Pu-In solutions containing 5 - 50 mg of indium per sample."
