Measurement of the Behavior of a Plasma in a Magnetic Field by Means of Probes (open access)

Measurement of the Behavior of a Plasma in a Magnetic Field by Means of Probes

Abstract: "Probes were used to measure certain properties of the cloud of positive ions and electrons ejected from a pulsed ion source having two hydrogen-loaded electrodes. Time-of-flight measurements show: the presence of H+ ions with 50 ev directed energy; an increase of this energy with increasing pulse current in the source; a higher peak yield of ions with higher peak currents in the source; and higher yields and higher ion energies up to 110 ev have been recorded with the use of a pulsed magnetic field impressed upon the source. The neutral positive ion-electron beam from the source has been projected against an increasing magnetic field and the reflected and transmitted signals have been recorded and compared as a function of the magnetic field. Probe signals from the plasma as it encounters the magnetic field are oscillatory, suggesting that magnetohydrodynamic phenomena are presented."

An Exact Analysis of Limited Plane Plasma in a Magnetic Field (open access)

An Exact Analysis of Limited Plane Plasma in a Magnetic Field

Introduction: "Prior analyses of a plasma in a magnetic field have been limited, as far as the writer is aware, to cases in which the relative change in field over the orbital distance and the relative change in ion concentration are both small, or in which the relations have been viewed in a purely hydrodynamical way. The first approach excludes cases which can be of considerable interests, for it fails near a plasma edge. The second loses all sight of the structure imposed by the orbital motions."

Investigation of Uranium Deposits, Anderson Mine and Adjacent Properties, Yavapai County, Arizona (open access)

Investigation of Uranium Deposits, Anderson Mine and Adjacent Properties, Yavapai County, Arizona

From abstract: A team consisting of R. A. Lindblom, S. A. Mayer, R. G. Young, W. L. Chenoweth, R. F. Droullard, and I. T. Fisk made a reexamination of the Anderson mine (Uranium Aire) of Interstate Oil and Development located near Wickenberg in Yavapai County, Arizona. The field examination was made from August 22, 1958 to September 2, 1958. This team was formed to resolve differences between company and AEC ore reserve estimates. A cooperative effort in which the company supplied labor, limited additional drilling and both parties were in attendance during the sampling resulted in the collection of additional data. Special attention was given to assessing the in-hole assaying with radiometric equipment by IOD and AEC, evaluation of tonnage factors, moisture content, continuity of ore, and current mapping of stripped and mined areas.

Uranium Occurrences in Wilson Creek Area, Gila County, Arizona (open access)

Uranium Occurrences in Wilson Creek Area, Gila County, Arizona

Abstract: The Wilson Creek Area, in northern Gila Cointy, is about 10 miles southeast of Young, Arizona, along the east side of Cherry Creek. Four claims covering concentrations of uranium mineralization in the Dripping Spring Formation are owned by the American Asbestos Cement Company. The claims are located in typical plateau-type topography, with flat mesa* and nearly vertical canyon walls. The bedded zones of uranium mineralization are exposed in the Dripping Spring Quartzite near the bottom of the canyons. It is suggested that the mineralized beds may have spatial relationship to the bottom of the Mescal limestone and to the bottom of a thick zone in the upper member of the quart site. Two of the four bedded deposits occur in *crackled" beds. One mineralized fracture was noted. The uranium mineral, meta-torbernite, has formed in tiny vugs in the quart site and is also intergrown with the iron oxide coating on the quart site surfaces. Associated minerals are minor and consist of chalcopyrite magnetite and chalcocite.

Interpretation and Evaluation of the Uranium Occurences Near Goodsprings, Nevada: Final Report (open access)

Interpretation and Evaluation of the Uranium Occurences Near Goodsprings, Nevada: Final Report

Abstract: The uranium occurrences near Goodsprings, Clark Co., Nevada, are divided into two distinct types which differ from each other in geographic distribution, localization of mineralization, mineralogy and origin. None of the known deposits is of present commercial significance and therefore this study emphasizes the genetic rather than the economic aspects.

A Preliminary Investigation of Triassic Rocks in the Lukachukai Mountains, Arizona (open access)

A Preliminary Investigation of Triassic Rocks in the Lukachukai Mountains, Arizona

Abstract: During the summer of 1955, two test holes were drilled into the Triassic Chinle Formation in the Lukachukai Mountains near Cove, Arizona, to obtain geologic information. Brief airborne and ground reconnaissance was made of Triassic outcrops near Cove. No anomalous radioactivity was found in the test holes, but chemical tests showed concentrations of heavy metals in conglomerate lenses in the Chinle Formation. Channel sandstones in the middle part of the Petrified Forest Member appear to be the most favorable for mineralization. The Shinarump Member, here underlain by a permeable unit, and occurring at depths greater than 500 feet, appears less promising for uranium exploration.

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of Tertiary Rock in the Central San Juan Basin, New Mexico

Three formations in the Tertiary of the San Juan Basin were investigated for their uranium favorability. They are the Ojo Alamo Sandstone, the Nacimiento Formation, and the San Jose Formation. The study comprised a literature survey and a basin analysis, which consisted of subsurface lithofacies, stratigraphic, and radiometric mapping. Field work in preparation for the subsurface analysis consisted of examination of outcrop and measured sections, surface radiometric traverses, and checking of reported surface radioactive anomalies.

Report on Wagon Drilling for Uranium in the Silver Reef (Harrisburg) District, Washington County, Utah: Part 1 (open access)

Report on Wagon Drilling for Uranium in the Silver Reef (Harrisburg) District, Washington County, Utah: Part 1

Abstract: An exploratory wagon drilling program was conducted from May 2, 1953, to October 31, 1953, on the Silver Crown, Big Hill, and Silverman claims of Western Gold and Uranium Mines, Inc. at the Silver Reef district near Leeds, Utah. Two economically significant new ore bodies were discovered and considerable geological information gained. The Silver Reef uranium deposits are located near the faulted north-plunging nose of the Virgin anticline in an old silver mining' district. Silver, uranium, vanadium, and copper minerals occur in association with various carbonaceous, sandy shale horizons of the Leeds and Tecumseh members of the Triassic Chinle formation. Mineralization has favored areas where relatively close-spaced normal faults of very small displacement cut the favorable beds.

Raw Data Report: Roach Lake Basin Orientation Study Kingman 1° X 2° NTMS Area, Nevada (open access)

Raw Data Report: Roach Lake Basin Orientation Study Kingman 1° X 2° NTMS Area, Nevada

Abstract: This report presents the results of the Roach Lake Basin, Nevada, orientation study in the Kingman 10 x 2* quadrangle of the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS). Wet, dry, and playa sediment samples were collected throughout the 420 km2 semi-arid, closed basin. Water samples were collected at the few available wells and springs. In addition to neutron activation analysis for uranium and 15 to 20 trace elements on all samples, field and laboratory measurements were made on water samples. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tabular hardcopy and fiche format. Four full-size overlays for use with the Kingman NTMS 1:250,000 quadrangle are included. Water sample site locations, water sample uranium concentration, sediment sample site locations, and sediment sample total uranium concentration are shown on the separate overlays. A general description of the area and the rock type distribution is presented. Some of the data in this report have been issued previously in "Preliminary Report on the Roach Lake Pilot Study," GJBX-44(76), August 1976.
