Patent for a wind-wheel that "needs no guiding vane or tail, but shall turn in the same direction at all times regardless of the direction of the wind" (lines 8-11). It is a horizontal wind wheel that rotates on a vertical axis. The blades automatically opens on one side and close on the opposite side.

Patent for a new and improved rock-drill. This design "is to construct a simple and efficient rock-drill in which the forward feeding and rotating of the drill are accomplished automatically" (lines 15-18). It consists in "the drill-rod, a tappet-plate placed loosely on the drill-rod, clutch mechanism connected with the tappet-plate for engaging the drill-rod, a spring for impelling the drill-rod, a cam provided with conical ends for lifting the tappet-plate, and the guide" (lines 20-26).

This design "has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple, cheap, and economical safe, in which provisions may be kept cool during the hot season and from freezing during the winter weather. I provide a suitable post or support, from which extend brackets, shelves, or hooks or other provisions for the support of the various articles to be contained therein. [T]he whole [is covered] with a cloth and [has] a water tank or receptacle at the upper end and . . . ha[s] a stream of water flow[ing] or trickl[ing] down upon the cloth to saturate the same" (lines 14-25).

Cotton-Chopping Machine.

Patent for improvement in stalk-choppers particularly adapted for chopping cotton. When the chopper is started the sprocket upon one of the traveling wheels will impart motion to the sprocket through the medium of the sprocket-chain, which will rotate the gear-wheel and in turn the pinion and the crank will impart a reciprocatory motion to the pitman and the horizontal bar, this will give the cutter-blade a reciprocatory motion. The speed of the reciprocatory chopping blade can be regulated. (Lines 45-55) Illustration is included.
