Patent for a "combined rake and portable baling-press, the objects in view being to provide a machine of the above class of comparatively cheap and simple construction and adapted to rake, elevate, deliver, pack, and bale hay and to apply the binding wires to the bales as formed in one continuous operation" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad-cars. This design "relates to car-couplings; and it has for its object to provide improved devices whereby the cars may be automatically coupled; and further, to provide improved devices for this purpose which shall be simple in construction and thoroughly effective in operation" (10-16).

Patent for a new and improved churn-power. This design is "to provide a spring-power and suitable gearing for operating the dasher, with a view of rendering the same in a high degree effective, convenient, and especially adapted to the requirements of service; [and], to afford facilities for the proper adjustment of the device to the different sizes of churns, and to provide for the quick and convenient detaching of the churn from the driving mechanism" (lines 12-21).

This design is for a double buckle, "of such a construction that secure fastenings may be obtained, and the two ends of a strap or the adjacent ends of different straps may be readily secured together in a reliable manner, thus admitting of the speedy manufacture of sets of harnesses" (lines 13-18). This design "consists in a cylinder composed of bars set into open heads and rotating beneath a hopper . . . so that the material to be mixed rests upon the cylinder, and is rasped or grated off by the motion of the cylinder and received on the inside of the cylinder between the bars. . . . When the material is received inside the cylinder it is carried around by the rotary motion, and is turned over and forced out" (lines 7-22).

Patent for a new compound used for tanning hides and skins of all kinds. It lists the ingredients and their proportions. “The principal advantage of the compound is that its action on the hides is speedy” (lines 27-28).

Patent for a new and improved motor. This design "relates to improvements in motors in which a screw or spiral operates in conjunction with suitable gearing; and the object of my improvement is to convert a vertically-reciprocating motion into a rotary for driving any light machinery" (lines 15-20).

Patent for "new and useful improvements in Hame-Hooks." (lines 5-6). "The object of the invention is to provide a hame-hook which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and by means of which the tug or trace chain may be easily attached to the hame at various heights and be securely retained in position." (lines 12-18)

Patent for a new and improved hand press for food. This design "consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a lower perforated bowl or receptacle having a rigid handle extending at right angles . . . and an upper perforated presser-head conforming in shape to the bowl, and having a sliding attachment to the handle of the bowl, a lever-handle pivoted to the main handle . . . and a spring catch to hold the lever up to the main handle when the presser-head is drawn up" (lines 21-32).

Patent for a more easily constructible "bridge the pillar or roadway of which is adjustable to different heights, and to meet certain contingencies and while adjustable as a whole is also adjustable at any point whatsoever, whereby the roadway may be maintained level regardless of the yielding of certain portions of the structure" (lines 11-17).

Patent for improved attachments for cotton gins. Useful amendments include the improvement of the function of "moving and regulating the feeding of cotton to the gin and the ejection of refuse, hulls and chaff." (lines 13-15). This is accomplished with the addition of a mechanism that "at regular intervals, close the feeder, open the gin breast and discharge the hulls and waste and again close the gin and open the feeder." (lines 37-40).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists "[i]n a swinging gate pivoted at its lower inner end and suspended by a diagonal wire, upon which it swings in being opened and closed, the adjustable bar provided with a depending loop or staple for the suspending-wire, the point of suspension by said loop, being between the latch end of the gate and a vertical line drawn through its pivot-pin" (lines 51-58).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design "is mounted upon a hinge-rod, which is adapted for adjustment at its upper end within a rack fixed to the top of the hinge-post and provided with a pivoted keeper for said hinge-rod, the object being to set the upper end of the hinge-rod away from the latch-post as may be required to raise the free end of the gate to take up the sag, to support the gate a sufficient height above the ground to swing free of snow, and to allow of the passage of small stock when the gate is closed" (lines 12-22).

Patent for a new and improved wire-tightener. This design "relates to devices for tightening the wires of a wire fence whether in the act of building the latter or after it has been put up and the wire is stretched thereon; and the invention consists of a metallic lever-arm adapted to be seated and adapted to turn in a hole in the fence-post, and upon whose body the wire is tightened as the arm is revolved" (lines 9-16).
