Radioactive contamination in liquid wastes discharged to ground at the separations facilities through December, 1966

This document summarizes the amounts of radioactive contamination discharged to ground from chemical separations and laboratory facilities through December, 1966. Detailed data for individual disposal sites are presented on a month-to-month basis for the period of January through December, 1966. Previous publications of this series are listed in the bibliography and may be referred to for specific information on measurements and radioactivity totals prior to January, 1966. Several changes in crib nomenclature were made during 1965. These changes are noted on the individual tables so reference may be made to them in previous reports.

Post-operation evaluation of fuel elements from the SNAP 10 Flight System 3 Reactor (open access)

Post-operation evaluation of fuel elements from the SNAP 10 Flight System 3 Reactor

Declassifled 28 Nov 1973. The S10FS-3 Reactor was disassembled and examined. The core was removed from the core vessel and all 37 fuel elements were subjected to a nondestructive screening examination followed by a detailed examination of selected elements. The screening examination consisted of visual inspection, dimensional measurement, eddy current scanning for hydrogen distribution, and gamma scanning. The subsequent detaiIed examination of selected elements included fission gas measurement, determination of hydrogen permeation rate, inspection of disassembled fuel elements, dimensional measurement of fuel, fuel density determination, hydrogen analysis, and fuel and cladding metallography. No defects or unexpected results were observed, and the examination firmly supported the conclusion that all the fuel elements completed the reactor operation in good condition. (auth)

Production test-080, physics testing at D reactor deactivation

The purpose of this test is to provide a set of experimental data to test a compute code frequently used in nuclear safety analyses and to explore certain experimental techniques which may prove extremely valuable in the future. In addition, some basic physics parameters which will be measured may be used in an assessment of the feasibility of using a deactivated Hanford reactor for space-dependent transient tests.

Compact Thermoelectric Converter Development Program. Quarterly Progress Report No. 3 for the Period July 1, 1967-September 30, 1967

Program effort was redirected toward more component studies and less assembly of full modules. This principal increases of component effort was in the thermoelement assembly area where studies of alternate bonds and barrier layers were instituted. Effort in the beryllia ceramic area was increased to provide a higher quality product. Test and evaluation was continued on the flexible connector and on the hot and cold heat exchanger plates with satisfactory results.
