Automatic Cylindrical Power.

Patent for a new and improved cylindrical power-source. This design "consists in the combination of a cylindrical slotted frame with a series of blades which are connected together in pairs, and which are alternately forced through the slots in the frame to receive the force of the wind or water and then retracted, so that they will offer no resistance during a portion of the revolution of the frame. . . . The object of [the] invention is to produce a motor which is adapted for use either as a wind-wheel or a water-wheel" (lines 13-27).

Balanced Piston Engine.

Patent for a new and improved balanced-piston engine. This design "relates to that class of steam or other engines which are constructed with two pistons receiving the pressure in opposite directions, each connected with cranks set at opposite positions, whereby the strain occurs simultaneously in opposite directions upon the crank-shaft and balances the same within its bearings, and thus obviates great friction on the journals and thereby economizes power" (lines 7-15).

Patent for a new and improved coffee roaster. This design calls for "a revolving cylinder; and the invention consists of a cylinder provided with a hollow trunnion, and of a semi-tubular tester introduced through said trunnion into the cylinder, which tester serves as a handle for revolving the cylinder, and can be withdrawn from time to time with samples of coffee to enable the operator to judge of the progress of the roasting process" (lines 11-19).

This design "consists of a cradle formed of two triangular folding end frames provided with folding braces and connected by longitudinal rods, from which the canvas bottom is supported, which frames are pivoted at their apex on the top of two connected triangular folding standards, and are provided with a crank for swinging the cradle. . . . Patent for a new and improved harness buckle. This design calls for a central cross-bar, upon which the frame rests, with fold-able arms that form a loop beneath the side-bars with the assistance of metal pins (lines 57-62). This design eliminates the need for stitching the strap being buckled.

This design utilizes "[a] pulling-wheel having radial jaws that are opened and closed by cam devices" when "[i]t is driven astride the [cotton] row, and will be found to operate rapidly and with absolute certainty. It is simple, durable, and may be constructed at a very small expense" (lines 79-84).
