Festival ensemble

Yao Tribe Festival ensemble. A) Pants. Black cotton(?) pants, 3/4 or longer in length. Plain waistband and upper section. Thighs, outsides of legs, and lower legs areas are intricately decorated, created in part by sewing together bands of woven work, and in part by bands of cross-stitch. The decorations are geometric forms, stylized natural forms, etc. in green, yellow, white, red, orange, pink, and black. No labels or tags in pants. B) Coat/Jacket/Top. Black cotton upper-body garment, full-length. Large "collar" of dark red fuzzy "pom-pom" edging with scattered green, yellow, and blue strands at base of trim and in places around neck. Long sleeves edged at ends in narrow bands of red and white applied fabric. Center front opening with no fasteners. Slits at sides from hem to waist create "ties" from the front flaps of the garment, which are trimmed in blue edging. At top of each side slit are attached three long tassels of magenta/pink yarn with beaded tops. No tags or labels in coat. C) Hat. - stored separately, on individual record. D)"Hat Scarf". Dress of navy blue wool knit. The mid-length dress has a contrasting red wool knit mandarin collar and long sleeves with red wool knit cuffs. There are two large patch pockets at front. Center front closure with twelve circular mother-of-pearl buttons mounted with gold-colored metal rims and shanks. The buttonholes are bound with the contrasting red wool knit. The dress has an attached wide red wool knit belt/sash which ties at waist in front. The dress is fully lined in dark navy blue silk. Designer's label inside lining of skirt at side seam: "Norman Norell / New York"

Earrings - Rabari Festival Attire

Silver earrings. Hook fasteners attached to triangular plaques set with red or red and green glass circles. Below plaques are suspended hemispherical filigree pieces with fringe of wrapped wire and silver spheres. One earring with 5 red stones, one empty collet, the other earring with 4 red and 2 green stones.

Man's Coat

Coat of beaver(?) and fox fur. Full-length coat of alternating light and dark brown "squares" of fur following patterns of the pelt. Long sleeves, two slit pockets at front hips, attached belt across small of back of same fur, and back vent. Double-breasted, with six large brown leather buttons in 3 pairs, which fasten to loops.
