Hat of straw. Designed in the style of a toque with a deep crown and an under-structure of woven natural flat straw overlaid with a thin bands of plaited yellow natural straw knotted at intervals. Near the base of the crown is a protruding section forming a very thin, high brim. Around the main section of the brim is a coral/salmon pink band of chiffon crepe, tied at back and with trailing ends. Hat is unlined with inner hatband of yellow grosgrain ribbon. Festival ensemble

Festival outfit of the Boysun Tribe, Surxondaryo (Surkhandarya) Province, southern Uzbekistan. a ) Dress of maroon silk with multicolored cotton Suzani-style embroidered floral designs. Knee-length(+/-), with slight v-neckline and collar. Slight gathers/pleats into yoke just below neckline. Embroidery in panels/sections over much of the garment, with white scrolling vine forms, green leaf forms, blue, yellow, and white "snowflake"/roundel motifs, green, red, orange, pink, and white plant forms. Scattered multicolored sequins within some of the embroidery. 3/4-length sleeves with same decoration. Yoke with lining of off-white cotton. Main body of garment unlined. Hem appears to either have been let down, or come out. No labels or tags in garment. b ) Headscarf of woven ikat in blue, yellow, maroon, and off-white. Rectangular, with fringe at narrow ends. To be wrapped around the head in a turban-like fashion. 16 1/4" wide x 68" long w/out fringe. No labels or tags. c ) Chirpy. Jacket-like head cover of thin cotton(?) fabric woven with vertical stripes of pink, yellow, red, green, blue, pale purple, etc. Center front opening with no closures, edged with embroidered band with green outer stripes, reddish inner stripes, and central band of black with scrolling forms in white and orange. …

Pillbox Hat

Pillbox hat of black velvet. The low, cylindrical crown is flattened on top, and has a black sequined and black cording ornament consisting of stylized scrolls and rosebuds(?) covered in black sequins. At back of hat is a stiff inverted black velvet cording tri-lobed ornament shaped as a "club" card suit. Lined in a dark gray satin, and with a dark gray inner grosgrain ribbon hatband. With gray elastic cord to help secure hat to wearer's head. No labels in hat.

Picture Hat

Picture hat of navy blue horsehair material. The high, domed crown is encircled at the base by a wide band of navy blue grosgrain ribbon and has an over-sized dark blue silk flower with artificial stems and leaves set at front. The wide brim is plain, turned back on itself at the edge to form a wide band of double-thickness. When worn, the brim hangs down forming conical shape, but when laid down, brim flattens. Skirt Suit

Two piece day suit. a) Jacket of burnt orange, moss green, and burgundy wool bouclé. Round neckline. Burnt orange braid at collar, center front and hem. Cuffs trimmed in rope braid and reversed side bouclé inserts. Faux french-cuffs of silk ikat taffeta at end of sleeves. 4 buttons covered with red silk and boarded with reverse of bouclé wool. Center front extension of reversed bouclé and buttons holes in seam, not welt. Patch pockets with V-shaped detail using matching trim, lined in ikat silk. Back hem weighed down by gilt, heavy chain.
