Article discussing an experimental and kinetic modeling study of the interaction between C₂H₂ and NOx under flow reactor conditions in the intermediate temperature range (600–900 K), high pressure (50–60 bar), and for stoichiometries ranging from reducing to strongly oxidizing. Experimental and Computational Studies of the Kinetics of the Reaction of Hydrogen Atoms with Carbon Disulfide

Article discussing an investigation of the reaction of H + CS₂ products. The reaction was found to be pressure dependent and in the fall-off region or near the low pressure limit. Transition state theory yields an estimate for the high-pressure limit of addition over 290–300 K of 1.3 × 10−9 exp( −7.2 kJ mol −1 /RT) cm3 molecule −1 s −1. Uncertainties are discussed in the text.

Further Analysis on Solubility Measurement and Thermodynamic Modeling of Benzoic Acid in Monosolvents and Binary Mixtures

Article discussing further analyses of the recent report (by Sandeepa et al.) on the solubility of benzoic acid in six monosolvents (i.e. tributyl phosphate, diacetone alcohol, methyl-n-propyl ketone, methyl acetate, amyl acetate, and isooctane) and five binary systems (i.e. ethanol + hexane, isopropyl alcohol + hexane and chloroform + hexane, acetone + hexane, and acetone + water) along with some numerical analyses. The reported calculations have been reanalyzed based on combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister, the modified Wilson model, general single model, Jouyban–Acree model and Jouyban–Acree–van’t Hoff model. The investigated models provide good estimation of the solubility behavior of benzoic acid in the binary solvent mixtures at various temperatures.

Rate Coefficient Measurements and Theoretical Analysis of the OH + (E)‑CF₃CH==CHCF₃ Reaction

Rate coefficients, k, for the gas-phase reaction of the OH radical with (E)CF3CHCHCF3 ((E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene, HFO-1336mzz(E)) were measured over a range of temperatures (211−374 K) and bath gas pressures (20−300 Torr; He, N2) using a pulsed laser photolysis−laser-induced fluorescence (PLP−LIF) technique. k1(T) was independent of pressure over this range of conditions with k1(296 K) = (1.31 ± 0.15) × 10−13 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 and k1(T) = (6.94 ± 0.80) × 10−13exp[−(496 ± 10)/T] cm 3 molecule−1 s−1, where the uncertainties are 2σ, and the pre-exponential term includes estimated systematic error. Rate coefficients for the OD reaction were also determined over a range of temperatures (262−374 K) at 100 Torr (He). The OD rate coefficients were ∼15% greater than the OH values and showed similar temperature dependent behavior with k2(T) = (7.52 ± 0.44) × 10−13exp[−(476 ± 20)/T] and k2(296 K) = (1.53 ± 0.15) × 10−13 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. The rate coefficients for reaction 1 were also measured using a relative rate technique between 296 and 375 K with k1(296 K) measured to be (1.22 ± 0.1) × 10−13 cm3 molecule−1 s−1, in agreement with the PLP−LIF results. Evaluation of a Chicken 600K SNP genotyping array in non-model species of grouse

This article tested the cross-species application of the Affymetrix 600K Chicken SNP array in five species of North American prairie grouse (Centrocercus and Tympanuchus genera). This study study provided evidence for successful cross-species application of the chicken SNP array in grouse which diverged ca. 37 mya from the chicken lineage. As far as the authors are concerned, this is the first reported application of a SNP array in non-passerine birds, and it demonstrates the feasibility of using commercial SNP arrays in research on non-model bird species.

Multimodal switching of a redox-active macrocycle

This article looks at molecules that can exist in multiple states with the possibility of toggling between those states based on different stimuli. They have potential for use in molecular switching or sensing applications. The coupling of two different oxidation states with two different charge-transfer states within one macrocyclic scaffold delivers up to five different optical outputs. This molecular switching manifold exploits intramolecular coupling of multiple redox active substituents within a single molecule.

Badly approximable points on self-affine sponges and the lower Assouad dimension

This article highlights a connection between Diophantine approximation and the lower Assouad dimension by using information about the latter to show that the Hausdorff dimension of the set of badly approximable points that lie in certain non-conformal fractals, known as self-affine sponges, is bounded below by the dynamical dimension of these fractals. The results, which are the first to advance beyond the conformal setting, encompass both the case of Sierpiński sponges/carpets (also known as Bedford–McMullen sponges/carpets) and the case of Barański carpets.

Multiple levers for overcoming the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic biomass

The article evaluates the impacts of physical, chemical and genetic interventions to improve biomass processing singly and in combination. Based on their results and literature studies, some form of non-biological augmentation will likely be necessary for the foreseeable future to achieve high total carbohydrate solubilization (TCS) for most cellulosic feedstocks. The results show that this need not necessarily involve thermochemical processing, and need not necessarily occur prior to biological conversion.

West Nile Virus risk and susceptibility in central California modeling dataset

The dataset was developed to support research intended to develop a spatially explicit model that explores environmental data related to the risk of exposure to West Nile Virus (WNV), and the susceptibility to WNV disease based on demographic data of the potentially affected population. The model was developed and then tested on census tracts in an identified hot spot of WNV in central California. The dataset contains (1) U.S. Census Bureau 2010 demographic data for 1,133 census tracks in the hotspot, and (2) and average mosquito habitat risk data for each of those census tracks.

The Stability of Metallic MoS₂ Nanosheets and Their Property Change by Annealing

This article focuses on the effects of mild annealing on the structural and physical properties of the MoS₂ by heating the nanosheets in air and vacuum up to 350 °C. It was found that the annealing leads to an increase in resistivity for the nanosheets by 3 orders of magnitude, the appearance of two absorption bands in the visible range, and a hydrophilic to hydrophobic change in the surface wetting properties. Overall, this study provides another way to control the electrical, optical, and surface properties of MoS₂ nanosheets for fulfilling the needs of various applications.
