Black Hole Growth Is Mainly Linked to Host-galaxy Stellar Mass Rather Than Star Formation Rate

This article investigates the dependence of black hole accretion rate (BHAR) on host-galaxy star formation rate (SFR) and stellar mass in the CANDELS/GOODS-South field in the redshift range of 0.5 ⩽ z < 2.0.

Engineered nonlinear materials using gold nanoantenna array

This article describes the use of a gold nanoantenna array to enhance both the nonlinear refractive index and two-photon absorption (2PA) of the organic dye 4,4'-bis(diphenylamino)stilbene (BDPAS), which is known as a dye with relatively large 2PA.

Coordination corrected ab initio formation enthalpies (open access)

Coordination corrected ab initio formation enthalpies

Article proposes the “coordination corrected enthalpies” method (CCE), based on the number of nearest neighbor cation–anion bonds, and also capable of correcting relative stability of polymorphs.

Development of a Thulium Fiber Laser for an Atomic Spectroscopy Experiment (open access)

Development of a Thulium Fiber Laser for an Atomic Spectroscopy Experiment

This article is a simplified analysis of a convenient thulium fiber laser source with 3 W of output power operating at a wavelength of 2059 nm with a slope efficiency of 49% with respect to input pump power and 60% with respect to absorbed pump power. The laser was applied in an atomic helium spectroscopy experiment to quench ³He (2058.63 nm) and ⁴He (2058.69 nm) meta-stable singlets (2¹S0), allowing for further investigation of the helium fine structure.

Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of rectangular and circular finite-length solenoids and current loops (open access)

Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of rectangular and circular finite-length solenoids and current loops

This article discusses closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields produced by rectangular- and circular-shaped finite-length solenoids and current loops. The closed-form expression for the magnetic field of a rectangular-shaped finite-length solenoid is derived using the Biot–Savart law. Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of solenoids and current loops can be used to avoid approximations in analytical models and may reduce computation time in computer simulations.

Complexity synchronization: a measure of interaction between the brain, heart and lungs (open access)

Complexity synchronization: a measure of interaction between the brain, heart and lungs

Authors of the article address the measurable consequences of the network effect (NE) on time series generated by different parts of the brain, heart, and lung organ-networks (ONs), which are directly related to their inter-network and intra-network interactions. The authors assert that these same physiologic ONs have been shown to generate crucial event (CE) time series, and herein are shown ,using modified diffusion entropy analysis (MDEA) to have scaling indices with quasiperiodic changes in complexity, as measured by scaling indices, over time.
