Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of rectangular and circular finite-length solenoids and current loops (open access)

Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of rectangular and circular finite-length solenoids and current loops

This article discusses closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields produced by rectangular- and circular-shaped finite-length solenoids and current loops. The closed-form expression for the magnetic field of a rectangular-shaped finite-length solenoid is derived using the Biot–Savart law. Closed-form expressions for the magnetic fields of solenoids and current loops can be used to avoid approximations in analytical models and may reduce computation time in computer simulations.

Evidence of Endozoochory in Upland Geese Chloephaga picta and White-Bellied Seedsnipes Attagis malouinus in Sub-Antarctic Chile

This article evaluates the role of endozoochory in herbivorous and sympatric bird species in sub-Antarctic Chile. The authors hypothesize that fragments of bryophyte gametophytes retrieved from their feces are viable and capable of regenerating new plant tissue. This relationship may have important implications in the way bryophytes disperse and colonize habitats facing climate change.

Badly approximable points on self-affine sponges and the lower Assouad dimension (open access)

Badly approximable points on self-affine sponges and the lower Assouad dimension

This article highlights a connection between Diophantine approximation and the lower Assouad dimension by using information about the latter to show that the Hausdorff dimension of the set of badly approximable points that lie in certain non-conformal fractals, known as self-affine sponges, is bounded below by the dynamical dimension of these fractals. The results, which are the first to advance beyond the conformal setting, encompass both the case of Sierpiński sponges/carpets (also known as Bedford–McMullen sponges/carpets) and the case of Barański carpets.

Quantum algorithm for electronic band structures with local tight-binding orbitals (open access)

Quantum algorithm for electronic band structures with local tight-binding orbitals

Article says that while the main thrust of quantum computing research in materials science is to accurately measure the classically intractable electron correlation effects due to Coulomb repulsion, designing optimal quantum algorithms for simpler problems with well-understood solutions is a useful tactic to advance our quantum “toolbox”. In this paper, the authors adopt a direct space approach, using a novel hybrid first/second-quantized qubit mapping which allows us to construct a single Hamiltonian, and a single cost-function, suitable for solving the entire electronic band structure.
