CICI: UCSS: Secure Containers in High-Performance Computing Infrastructure

Data management plan for the grant, "CICI: UCSS: Secure Containers in High-Performance Computing Infrastructure." Ensuring the security and privacy of high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures is of utmost importance due to their handling of sensitive data and critical scientific computations. HPC infrastructures commonly employ containers, which provide lightweight and isolated environments for running applications. Nevertheless, containers in HPC infrastructures encounter security challenges, including insecure container images and vulnerabilities related to isolation. Existing container image scanners face a major challenge of low coverage, while current container runtimes struggle to ensure both security and performance for HPC workloads simultaneously. This project addresses these challenges by developing secure containers specifically tailored for HPC infrastructures. The project introduces innovative solutions, including the development of an efficient image vulnerability scanner and a secure container runtime.

New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers (open access)

New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers

Data management plan for the grant, "New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers." In this project, we propose the development of selective self-assembling peptides that form nanofibers via a self-assembling process upon the action of Eyes absent (EYA) enzyme, specific to drug resistance Triple Negative Breast cancer cells (TNBC). The objectives are: Aim 1: Design and synthesize self-assembling peptide substrates for EYA enzymes; Aim 2:Determining the efficacy of peptide substrates for inhibiting TNBC in spheroid 3D cell cultures. The correlation between the enzyme kinetic and the activity of nanostructures for targeting EYA will be evaluated. Aim 3: The apoptosis response of the TNBC cells will be determined. This study will lead to finding the potent peptide substrate and the effective dose for inhibiting TNBC cells with apoptosis cell death.

Collaborative Research: CIF: Medium: Fundamental Limits of Cache-aided Multi-user Private Function Retrieval

Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: CIF: Medium: Fundamental Limits of Cache-aided Multi-user Private Function Retrieval." This project is motivated by the need to efficiently execute complex queries on massive databases in a way that minimizes the use of communication resources while preserving the privacy of the entity that initiated the query. Such queries are functions of the data points that are stored at remote servers. This project develops a principled and holistic framework for the problem of privately retrieving, at distributed cache-aided nodes, the output of functions based on both data that is locally computed and data that is received from multiple servers.

Article discusses how sensing temperature is important for a wide variety of applications such as control systems and instrumentation which are integral to various industrial sectors and in research settings. The authors emphasize the importance of high sensitivity and reliable methods using a frequency-based approach for detecting temperature changes. In their study, Au rectangular single-arm spiral antennas with varying sizes were fabricated and RF S-parameter measurements were conducted over the frequency range of 300 kHz to 20 GHz. Alongside the experimental measurements, they also present results from their simulation analysis conducted using High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) from ANSYS.

Scalable, top-down optical lithography for electrically contacting monolayer crystallites of vapor grown WSe2 for gas sensing applications

Article discusses how semiconducting two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have garnered a great deal of interest owing to their large surface-to-volume ratios compared to traditional three-dimensional (3D) semiconductors, and focuses on a specific TMD; tungsten diselenide (WSe₂). In their study, the authors demonstrate the halide-assisted low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (HA-LPCVD) of high crystalline-quality, monolayer WSe₂.

Plexcitonic interactions in spherical and bi-pyramidical Au nanoparticles with monolayer WSe₂

Article describes how plasmons associated with zero-dimensional (0D) metal nanoparticles and their synergistic interactions with excitons in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors offer opportunities for remarkable spectral tunability not otherwise evident in the pristine parent materials, which necessitates an in-depth study elucidating the nature of the plasmonic and excitonic interactions, jointly referred to as plexcitons in order to understand the foundational aspects of the light–matter interactions in hybrid 0D–2D systems. The authors examine the plexcitonic interactions of van der Waals (vdWs) hybrid structures composed of 2D WSe2 and 0D Au nanoparticles (Au-NPs) in their spherical (Au-Sp) and bi-pyramidical (Au-BP) architectures, which demonstrates that geometry-mediated response of the AuNPs provides another degree of freedom to modulate the carrier photodynamics in WSe₂.

Stability and degradation in triple cation and methyl ammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells mediated via Au and Ag electrodes (open access)

Stability and degradation in triple cation and methyl ammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells mediated via Au and Ag electrodes

Article focuses on the fact that there are no clear mechanisms for the interaction of electrode-induced absorber degradation pathways. Furthermore, the authors hypothesize that the formation of AgI in the PSCs, leads to corrosion of the perovskite absorber, as opposed to the benign AuI when Au electrodes are used in the solar cell stack.

Effect of pressure quenching on the structures and properties of borosilicate glasses: Insights from molecular dynamics simulations

Article describes how processes including hot compression, cold compression and subsequent annealing on the structures and properties are investigated and compared. They found that applying pressure up to 10 GPa at the glass transition temperature led to permanent densifications and a dramatic increase of elastic moduli by 90%, while thermal annealing reversed the increase and applying pressure at ambient temperature did not increase the modulus.
