A pseudo thermo-mechanical model linking process parameters to microstructural evolution in multilayer additive friction stir deposition of magnesium alloy

Article describes how additive friction stir deposition has been proposed as a disruptive manufacturing process; involving complex thermo-mechanical mechanisms during multilayer material deposition. The primary motivation for development of the model was to seek an understanding of thermo-mechanical mechanisms and their impact on microstructural evolution during additive friction stir deposition.

Novel thin polymeric magnetic membranes study for applications in the future biomedical devices (open access)

Novel thin polymeric magnetic membranes study for applications in the future biomedical devices

Article describes how biomedical devices such as pumping/mixing fluids, cell-culturing, and drug delivery often use different actuation methods. In regard to magnetic actuation, membranes with a local distribution of magnetic particles are investigated and compared to membranes with randomly distributed magnetic particles, which in turn may enhance the actuation performance for certain applications.

Plexcitonic interactions in spherical and bi-pyramidical Au nanoparticles with monolayer WSe₂

Article describes how plasmons associated with zero-dimensional (0D) metal nanoparticles and their synergistic interactions with excitons in two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors offer opportunities for remarkable spectral tunability not otherwise evident in the pristine parent materials, which necessitates an in-depth study elucidating the nature of the plasmonic and excitonic interactions, jointly referred to as plexcitons in order to understand the foundational aspects of the light–matter interactions in hybrid 0D–2D systems. The authors examine the plexcitonic interactions of van der Waals (vdWs) hybrid structures composed of 2D WSe2 and 0D Au nanoparticles (Au-NPs) in their spherical (Au-Sp) and bi-pyramidical (Au-BP) architectures, which demonstrates that geometry-mediated response of the AuNPs provides another degree of freedom to modulate the carrier photodynamics in WSe₂.

G-DaM: A Distributed Data Storage with Blockchain Framework for Management of Groundwater Quality Data

Authors discuss their use of a distributed and decentralized architecture to store the statistics, perform double hashing, and implement access control through smart contracts to forecast groundwater availability. Their work demonstrates a modern and innovative approach combining Distributed Data Storage and Blockchain technologies to overcome traditional data sharing, and centralized storage, while addressing blockchain limitations.

Stability and degradation in triple cation and methyl ammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells mediated via Au and Ag electrodes (open access)

Stability and degradation in triple cation and methyl ammonium lead iodide perovskite solar cells mediated via Au and Ag electrodes

Article focuses on the fact that there are no clear mechanisms for the interaction of electrode-induced absorber degradation pathways. Furthermore, the authors hypothesize that the formation of AgI in the PSCs, leads to corrosion of the perovskite absorber, as opposed to the benign AuI when Au electrodes are used in the solar cell stack.
