Mining Potential Effects of HUMIRA in Twitter Posts Through Relational Similarity (open access)

Mining Potential Effects of HUMIRA in Twitter Posts Through Relational Similarity

Article investigating HUMIRA effects mentioned in Twitter posts using a relational similarity-based method. The authors were able to identify effects previously known as well as potentially unreported, which demonstrates the power of this method and its potential for studying effects of other medications shared by Twitter users.

Hierarchical Eutectoid Nano-lamellar Decomposition in an Al0.3CoFeNi Complex Concentrated Alloy (open access)

Hierarchical Eutectoid Nano-lamellar Decomposition in an Al0.3CoFeNi Complex Concentrated Alloy

Article discusses a novel eutectoid nano-lamellar (FCC + L12)/(BCC + B2) microstructure that has been discovered in a relatively simple Al0.3CoFeNi high entropy alloy (HEA) or complex concentrated alloy (CCA).

BAM: A Block-Based Bayesian Method for Detecting Genome-Wide Associations with Multiple Diseases (open access)

BAM: A Block-Based Bayesian Method for Detecting Genome-Wide Associations with Multiple Diseases

Article proposes a novel Bayesian method, named BAM, for simultaneously partitioning Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) into Linkage Disequilibrium(LD)-blocks and detecting genome-wide multi-locus epistatic interactions that are associated with multiple diseases. Experimental results on the simulated datasets demonstrate that BAM is powerful and efficient.

Plasmon-resonance emission tailoring of “origami” graphene-covered photonic gratings (open access)

Plasmon-resonance emission tailoring of “origami” graphene-covered photonic gratings

Article focusing on the modification of optical properties through folding, or “origami,” of graphene covering a plasmonic metal channel grating. This work is especially critical to understanding tailored deep plasmon emission from geometrically-modulated conducting sheets such as graphene.

Can a simple topological-constraints-based model predict the initial dissolution rate of borosilicate and aluminosilicate glasses? (open access)

Can a simple topological-constraints-based model predict the initial dissolution rate of borosilicate and aluminosilicate glasses?

This article, as an alternative route to empirical models, shows that a structural descriptor based on the number of topological constraints per atom can be used to predict the initial dissolution rate of aluminosilicate and borosilicate glasses after being parameterized on different families of glasses (specific series of borosilicate glasses). Results show that, provided that corrections are made for high alkali content glasses that dissolve incongruently (preferential release of Na), the model gives reasonable predictions, even far from its training domain.
