Detergent-Based Decellularization for Anisotropic Cardiac-Specific Extracellular Matrix Scaffold Generation (open access)

Detergent-Based Decellularization for Anisotropic Cardiac-Specific Extracellular Matrix Scaffold Generation

Article describes how cell-derived extracellular matrix has become increasingly popular in tissue engineering applications due to its ability to provide tailored signals for desirable cellular responses. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of two detergent-based decellularization methods: a combination of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and sodium dodecyl sulfate and a combination of sodium deoxycholate and deoxyribonuclease.

New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers (open access)

New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers

Data management plan for the grant, "New approach based on enzyme stimulating of peptides for targeting drug resistance breast cancers." In this project, we propose the development of selective self-assembling peptides that form nanofibers via a self-assembling process upon the action of Eyes absent (EYA) enzyme, specific to drug resistance Triple Negative Breast cancer cells (TNBC). The objectives are: Aim 1: Design and synthesize self-assembling peptide substrates for EYA enzymes; Aim 2:Determining the efficacy of peptide substrates for inhibiting TNBC in spheroid 3D cell cultures. The correlation between the enzyme kinetic and the activity of nanostructures for targeting EYA will be evaluated. Aim 3: The apoptosis response of the TNBC cells will be determined. This study will lead to finding the potent peptide substrate and the effective dose for inhibiting TNBC cells with apoptosis cell death.

High-Throughput Investigation of Multiscale Deformation Mechanism in Additively Manufactured Ni Superalloy

Article discusses how, in this paper, Inconel 718 (IN718) superalloy was processed by laser powder-bed fusion additive manufacturing (L-PBFAM), followed by heat treatment. Evidence of extensive deformation of twin networks and dislocation cells was revealed by transmission electron microscopy of the deformed region under the nanoindentation tip.

Predicting initial dissolution rates using structural featuresfrom molecular dynamics simulations

Article states that predicting the chemical durability of glass materials is important for various applications from daily life such as cell phone screens and kitchenware to advanced technologies such as nuclear waste disposal and biomedicine. In this work, we explored the prediction of the initial glass dissolution rates using structural features from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for a series of glass compositions (total 28), including ZrO2- and V2O5-containing boroaluminosilicate, borosilicate, and aluminosilicate glasses.

Wearable airbag technology and machine learned models to mitigate falls after stroke

Article discusses wearable airbag technology that has been designed to detect and mitigate fall impact. However, this technology has not been validated for the stroke population, so authors investigated whether population-specific training data and modeling parameters are required to pre-detect falls in a chronic stroke population.

Natlog: a Lightweight Logic Programming Language with a Neuro-symbolic Touch

Article that introduces Natlog, a lightweight Logic Programming language, sharing Prolog's unification-driven execution model, but with a simplified syntax and semantics. The authors' proof-of-concept Natlog implementation is tightly embedded in the Python-based deep-learning ecosystem with focus on content-driven indexing of ground term datasets. As an overriding of the authors symbolic indexing algorithm, the same function can be delegated to a neural network, serving ground facts to Natlog's resolution engine. The open-source implementation is available as a Python package at t https://pypi.org/project/natlog/.

Low-Cost Reliable Corrosion Sensors Using ZnO-PVDF Nanocomposite Textiles

This article investigates the reliability and effectiveness of nonwoven zinc(II) oxide-polyvinylidene fluoride (ZnO-PVDF) nanocomposite fiber textiles as an embedded corrosion sensor using an accelerated thermal cyclic method paired to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Results suggest that the flexible sensor is reliable at both monitoring the corrosion and acting as a corrosion barrier.

Correlating work hardening with co-activation of stacking fault strengthening and transformation in a high entropy alloy using in-situ neutron diffraction (open access)

Correlating work hardening with co-activation of stacking fault strengthening and transformation in a high entropy alloy using in-situ neutron diffraction

Article using in-situ neutron diffraction to correlate SF strengthening to work hardening behavior in a low SFE Fe40Mn20Cr15Co20Si5 (at%) high entropy alloy, SFE ~ 6.31 mJ m−2. Cooperative activation of multiple mechanisms was indicated by increases in SF strengthening and γ-f.c.c. → ε-h.c.p. transformation leading to a simultaneous increase in strength and ductility. The present study demonstrates the application of in-situ, neutron or X-ray, diffraction techniques to correlating SF strengthening to work hardening.
