The runaway

Little Julia, resident of New York City, is taken to see her uncle's farm. Exposed to fields, animals, and the open spaces, she regrets having to return to the city. Back home, she wants to run away and return to her uncle's farm. Against her mother's orders, she does run away one day, but is found and brought home, and learns never to disobey her mother again.

This document includes journal entries from April 4 to April 11 in an unidentified year. In the entries, Moore writes about a camping trip that is cut short by a "norther." The cold and snowy weather damaged the wheat and corn crops. He details his trip into McKinney in the snow and the snowball a group of boys were rolling in town. The next morning, on the 12, the winter weather had cleared up and by noon the snow was nearly all gone.

Image of a frame with pressed edelweiss. The frame is an oval shape painted royal blue with gold gilded flourishes and outer rim. On the inner rim of the frame are raised gilded dots. Inside the frame are three pressed edelweiss flowers which have stems that have been discolored with time. At the top is a label for ownership. Mrs. N. H. Dole is likely Helen B. Dole who was one of the translators of the novel "Heidi" by Johanna Spyri from German to English. On the paper backing is illegible, faded text.
