Lilly and J. D. Todd caught him in Fairview, Ohio. 4 days later. He stayed in jail about six mo. (months) and broke out of jail stole my pistol and escaped. We caught him in Oklahoma 3 days latter."

Photograph of Perry Gamble's body, following his suicide by train. Typed on the back of the photograph, "The body of Perry Gamble - On the night of April 23rd, 1939, Perry Gamble left his house one mile north of Foard City at three o'clock in the morning and went to the rail road. The fireman on the train saw him standing beside the track. Just before the train got to him, he throwed his hands up and dove in front of the train. Eleven cards passed over his body. Both hands, both feet and his head was cut off. All his clothes were tore from his body. Parts of his skull and flesh, his brains, klesh, and his insides were scattered alonge the track fro about one hundred and fifty yards. This happened about seven miles south of Crowell, Texas. Sheriff - A. W. Lilly. Deputy - J. D. Todd. Perry was about 33 years old and had a wife and two kids. The only way we could identify his body was by his clothes. He had been sich for about two weeks and had tried to borrow a gun from two different people and had failed to get one. …
