This conference paper explores how what we perceive differs from what we believe. The authors bring three perspectives together with the aim of seeking meaning in our relationship with our natural “arena” through symbolic metalanguage:1) comprehending a gestalt approach to perception and narratives as metaphor; 2) gaining perceptual reciprocity to enhance our relationship with nature; 3) overcoming the obstacles of misinterpretation and unreliable narratives of the simulacra. It was presented at the 2022 Association of Philosophy and Literature Conference held May 25-28, 2022.

The UNT Libraries’ Collection Assessment Department evaluated collections’ ability to meet the curricular and research needs of the academic programs being reviewed. They assessed current needs based on course descriptions and research outputs, defined the scope of information needed based on this needs assessment, and evaluated the Libraries’ holdings in these subject areas against the usage, qualitative listings, and requests for materials from other libraries. Specific recommendations for collection development are provided based on the results of these analyses.

Presentation sharing research on job advertisements for cataloging manager positions in academic libraries from 2015 through 2020. The presenters discuss how required and preferred qualifications have evolved over time. Recommendations for writing job advertisements to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion are provided. It was presented virtually for the ALA Core Role of the Professional Librarian in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS) Core IG Week program, on March 9, 2022.

This report asserts that the UNT Libraries has been making efforts to address the vestiges of systemic oppression of socially and politically minoritized populations. The project team members conducted a survey and a focus group, and they consulted with an advisory group consisting of representatives from the library, student affairs, and the professorate.

This presentation is a workshop that provides a structured program of five mindfulness exercises to help individuals learn how to develop mindfulness practices that may be useful when studying. The program is connected to an optional research study on mindfulness programming in libraries.

This resource presents guidelines created by the Library Council on Diversity and Inclusion (LCDI) for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) when planning library-wide internal events and for external events and conferences hosted by the UNT Libraries.

They will conduct focus groups and pilot a method on one aspect of their collections. For this panel discussion, self-selected members of an advisory board for this project will discuss their individual motivations for and concerns about the project.
