This two page document is a brief organizational history for The Portal to Texas History for 2004. This document was used for grant submissions to state or federal funding agencies, or private foundations. This document reflects on strategic directions for the program, as well as the number of collaborative partners for the Portal and the number of historic documents in the digital library.

This paper introduces the concept of web site usability, provides a brief introduction to the techniques, offers examples from two “real life” studies that show how the techniques of formal usability studies, focus groups, and card sorts can be used and offers tips and tricks for employing these techniques.

This article presents results from the task-based testing and focus group portion of a usability study on the University of North Texas Libraries' website in addition to three other academic library web sites to examine the effects of multiple design elements and styles on the participants' results and to provide additional insight into user preferences.

Report on the Texas Register, a weekly publication by the Office of the Secretary of State. This report discusses a partnership between the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries and the Office of the Secretary of State to insure permanent storage and public access to the non-current electronic files of the Texas Register.

These grant materials were prepared for a project funded by Humanities Texas to digitize materials from ten collaborative partners. The documents discuss the historical significance of Lorenzo de Zavala, the proposed materials for digitization, project goals, and publicity. A work plan details selection criteria for materials, the digitization process and scanning standards, translating Spanish materials, and long-term benefits of the project. The project was funded for $10,000.

This poster presentation discusses the MetaCombine project, a Mellon-funded effort based at Emory University, with the goal of discovering and developing systems and methods to more meaningfully combine digital libraries, digital library resources, and digital library services.
