This report describes a study to identify the distribution and extent of areas potentially at risk for atrazine (a broad leaf weedkiller) runoff in the Lake Lavon watershed, which is a major water supply for the Dallas area. The report presents the results of the study and makes recommendations for how information can be used in a cost-effective watershed atrazine reduction strategy.

These grant materials were prepared for a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities Common Heritage program to digitize, preserve, and provide access to community historical records. The award funded digitization of print and media items related to the motion picture history of Denton County and a lecture highlighting Denton’s film history and materials discovered during the program. For this grant, UNT served as the lead institution and collaborated with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image. The grant materials include a history of Denton County’s involvement in film production and distribution, digitization standards, and a work plan for the project. This proposal was funded for $11,840.

Results of a study to test knowledge and attitudes among licensed U.S. counselors regarding near-death experiences (NDEs) through surveys administered before and after the counselors completed an online course.

Study of visual perception during the naturalistic near-death out-of-body experience (nND OBE), that aspect of the NDE in which the experiencer seems to view normal physical surroundings from a vantage point outside the physical body, which yielded some unexpected findings that contradicted or augmented previous research. Each of these findings is discussed relative to previous research and analyzed in light of the limitations of the current study.

Study of near-death verdicality in the hospital setting. The paper describes problems, both anticipated and unanticipated, that were encountered. Based on the successes and failures of this undertaking, recommendations for future research of this type are presented.

Study attempting to ascertain the most appropriate content and placement of visual stimuli in a hospital-based study of the veridicality of out-of-body perception in the near-death experience (NDE), and the likelihood that a subject in such a study would notice, clearly perceive, and accurately recall a visual stimulus.

Study investigating electromagnetic effects among near-death experiencers (NDErs), people who reported a close brush with death without an NDE, and people who reported never having been close to death but who used their most life-changing event as a past reference point.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation recently funded a study of the landscape of usage data for open-access scholarly monographs and an investigation of the viability of creating a data trust for sharing of usage data among stakeholders in the publishing ecosystem. In spring 2019, the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) will publish a final white paper that takes into account feedback from the community during a consultation period. This presentation will provide a summary of the main findings and proposals of the forthcoming white paper.

Interactive DVD documenting the research by Dr. James and Virginia Marshall to trace the history of the elements in the periodic table. It includes biographical information on the scientists who discovered each of the elements, notes about each of the elements with photos, periodic tables, maps and photographs of the cities where elements were discovered, a timeline of discoveries, written articles about the research, and other background documentation.

These interviews gathered information about collection policies and characteristics of born-digital publications that are incorporated into these bodies of materials, to inform future machine learning algorithms.

Paper written for the 2013 Open Repositories conference about the implementation of name authority in the UNT Digital Library.

White paper discussing qualitative research conducted by the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries regarding perceptions of quality by metadata creators and their managers. These perceptions of metadata quality are intended to identify gaps in tools and interfaces used to create metadata.

This two-year project, led by the University of North Texas Libraries, will broaden access to 141 books selected by one of three publishers or by the UNT Libraries for their relevance to the history of Texas and Oklahoma. It will also broaden access to five humanities-related books to be selected once the grant starts. Those books not yet available online through the Gateway to Oklahoma History, Portal to Texas History, or UNT Digital Library websites will be digitized, with full-text searching, and added to the appropriate site. All books will be converted to EPUB and Kindle formats, made available to download with the digitized version online, and added to the UNT Library Catalog and to WorldCat. The project also includes the production of “print-ready” PDFs from the scans of many of the books to allow them to be made available for sale in print again using print-on-demand technology. This proposal was submitted in June 2015 and funded in December 2015 by the National Endowment for the Humanities for $95,599.

The National Digital Stewardship Alliance is a member organization whose mission is to establish, maintain, and advance the capacity to preserve our nation's digital resources for the benefit of present and future generations. From October through November of 2013, a team of individuals representing multiple NDSA member institutions and Working Groups conducted a survey of organizations in the United States that are actively involved in, or planning to start, programs to archive content from the Web. This effort builds upon a similar survey undertaken by the NDSA in late 2011 and published online in June of 2012. The goal of the survey was to better understand the landscape of web archiving activities in the U.S. by investigating the organizations involved, the history and scope of their web archiving programs, the types of web content being preserved, the tools and services being used, access and discovery services being provided, and overall policies related to web archiving programs.
