This dataset contains Twitter JSON data for several Twitter search queries that were collected following the death on July 17, 2020, of American politician and civil-rights leader John Lewis, who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death. This dataset was created using the twarc (https://github.com/DocNow/twarc) package that makes use of Twitter's search API. A total of 6,870,881 Tweets and 42,055 media files make up the combined dataset.

This dataset was created using the twarc (https://github.com/DocNow/twarc) package that makes use of Twitter's search API. A total of 4,187,890 Tweets and 15,779 media files make up the combined dataset.

Established in Waco in 1968, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum honors the iconic Texas Rangers, a service that has existed, in one form or another, since 1823. Thirty-one individuals—whose lives span more than two centuries—have been enshrined in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. They have become legendary symbols of Texas and the American West. In The Ranger Ideal Volume 3, Darren L. Ivey presents capsule biographies of the twelve inductees who served Texas in the twentieth century. In the first portion of the book, Ivey describes the careers of the “Big Four” Ranger captains—Will L. Wright, Frank Hamer, Tom R. Hickman, and Manuel “Lone Wolf” Gonzaullas—as well as those of Charles E. Miller and Marvin “Red” Burton. Ivey then moves into the mid-century and discusses Robert A. Crowder, John J. Klevenhagen, Clinton T. Peoples, and James E. Riddles. Ivey concludes with Bobby Paul Doherty and Stanley K. Guffey, both of whom gave their lives in the line of duty. Cataloging not only facilitates discovery but also provides information needed to track usage, create programming, generate recommendations, and support collection development. Attend this poster presentation for an overview of descriptive and subject cataloging for makerspace items. It was presented at the Cross Timbers Library Collaborative (CTCL) 2021 conference held virtually on July 23, 2021.

Presentation with speakers' notes describing the Trans Accessible Libraries Initiative at the University of North Texas Libraries. This initiative uses findings documented in recent studies addressing information seeking behaviors of transgender persons and their perceptions of the library to provide more equitable access to their services and collections. The presentation shares the needs assessment, collection development process, promotion and outreach, and next steps related to this initiative in hopes that other libraries can modify them to serve marginalized populations in their communities.

In the annals of American western history, few people have left behind such lasting and far-reaching fame as Billy the Kid. Some have suggested that his legend began with his death at the end of Pat Garrett’s revolver on the night of July 14, 1881, in Fort Sumner. Others believe that the legend began with his unforgettable jailbreak in Lincoln, New Mexico, several months prior on April 28, 1881. Others still insist his legend began with the publication in 1926 of Walter Noble Burns’s book, The Saga of Billy the Kid. James B. Mills has left no stone unturned in his twenty-year quest to tell the complete story of Billy the Kid. He explores the Kid’s disputable origins, his family’s migration from New York into the Southwest, and how he became an orphan, as well as his involvement in the Lincoln County War, his outlaw exploits, and his dealings with Governor Lew Wallace. Mills illuminates the Kid’s relationships with his enemies, lovers, and numerous friends to contextualize the man’s character beyond his death and legacy. Most importantly, Mills is the first historian to fully detail the Kid’s relations with New Mexicans of Spanish descent. So, the question remains, who really …

Photograph of the Historical Marker in front of St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Elmore St. in New Waverly, TX. Marker Text reads: "The Rev. Felix Orzechowski, who came to Texas in 1866 to answer an appeal for Polish missionaries, organized St. Joseph's Parish in 1869. The first Catholic church in Walker County, it served the many Polish families who settled this area in the 1870s. Church tradition often sustained the immigrants until they adjusted to life in a new country. Services were held outdoors or in private homes during Father Orzechowski's pastorate. Soon after leaving this parish in 1876, he returned to Poland and was imprisoned by ruling Russian officials for advocating democratic ideals. A frame church building was erected in 1877 under the direction of the Rev. Victor Justiana Linicki, who was a Polish baron before he became a priest. A larger edifice, designed by Tom Lavandoski, was built in 1897, and the original structure was used as a school. The present church was begun in 1905 and dedicated on the feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 1908, during the pastorate of the Rev. Thomas Aloysius Bily (1859-1921).
