An Analysis of Thirty Border Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas in Relation to E. W. Burgess' Concentric Zone Hypothesis (open access)

An Analysis of Thirty Border Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas in Relation to E. W. Burgess' Concentric Zone Hypothesis

This study is made to evaluate some of these forces for the thirty titled Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas of the United States which are located on and overlap borders of two or more states. The attempt is made to determine if border SMSAs conform to the Burgess model despite state lines and other barriers imposed between SMSA parts, or whether such barriers restrict functional growth to the state side containing the central city.

Stepan Trofimovitch Verhovensky: the Key to The Possessed (open access)

Stepan Trofimovitch Verhovensky: the Key to The Possessed

In the "metaphysical vacuum" of The Possessed Stepan Trofimovitch Verhovensky is symbolic of a non-productive stewardship--a father who did not father, a teacher who did not teach, and elder who did not will wisdom and tradition to the dependent younger generation. It is puzzling how little critical notice has been taken of Stepan, and it is a lonely position to find in him the key to the teeming, chaotic world of the novel, but this is the thesis which will be pursued.

Validity Studies on the "Draw-a-Group" Projective Technique for Measuring Interpersonal Responsiveness

As with all psychodiagnostic tests, before the "Draw-a-Group" can be considered a valuable instrument to the clinician, some basis for validity must be set. Although some research has been done on the "Draw-a-Group," sufficient validity has yet to be established. It is the purpose of this research to attempt to further establish the validity of the "Draw-a-Group." A related purpose is to attempt to further clarify which factors are related to interpersonal responsiveness.

ESR Studies of Group IV Substituted Anilines (open access)

ESR Studies of Group IV Substituted Anilines

The purpose of the investigation described herein was to investigate the degree of delocalization of the unpaired electron in ion radicals formed in the oxidation process of compounds with aromatic rings connected by means of various groups and atoms not entering the ring; then, to establish the relationship of coupling constants in radical cations with substituent σ values. The parent cation radical, in which the co-planar ion was derived from N,N-dimethylaniline, was selected in order to maximize the substituent effects on coupling constants and to obtain couplings at several positions (specifically, CH3, N, and ring protons).
