The purposes of this study were to measure and compare stress levels of academic administrators in public and private universities which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs in Thailand. The administrators surveyed included vice rectors (vice presidents), deans, department chairpersons, and secretary officers from five public and five private universities. The four administrative stress factors studied included role-based stress, task-based stress, conflict-mediating stress, and social-confidence stress.

ADP-ribose polymer metabolism has been studied in human cells derived from a patient with Glutamyl Ribose Phosphate Storage Disease (GRPSD) and in mouse C3H1OT1/2 cells following oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H202 ). It has been postulated that GRPSD resulted from an abnormality in ADP-ribose polymer metabolism. This study has shown that these cells exhibit reduced poly(ADP ribose) polymerase activity which is proposed to result from modification of the enzyme with ribose phosphate groups. The modification in the polymerase is proposed to be secondary to a defect in either ADP-ribosyl proteinlyase or an overproduction of a cellular phosphodiesterase. The metabolism of ADP-ribose polymers was rapidly altered by H202 and there were independent effects on adenine nucleotide pools. The results suggest that ADP-ribose polymer metabolism is involved in cellular defenses to oxidative stress.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the job satisfaction among the faculty members of degree-granting colleges of education in Nigeria. The study was based on the six subsections of the Job Descriptive Index developed by Smith and associates: present work, pay, promotion, supervision, coworkers and job in general.

The problem of this study was subsidy ("vanity") publishing among college and university faculty. The purpose of the study was to estimate the extent to which postsecondary faculty use subsidy presses for the publication of their scholarly writings and the professional reasons for which academicians choose these presses to publish their works, viz., tenure, promotion, or salary increase. An additional purpose was to compare the subsidy publication experiences of faculty according to the types of institutions which employ them. The study involved 11 national subsidy publishers and 1,124 subsidy-published authors throughout the United States. Subsidy-published authors were identified occupationally as faculty by their appearance in the 1990 edition of The National Faculty Directory. The subjects in this study consisted of (a) faculty members listed in The National Faculty Directory. 1990 who are (b) known to have used subsidy presses for publishing their writings. A major finding of the study was that the proportion of vanity-published authors who are college and university faculty was small. Diels-Alder [4+2] cycloaddition of a mixture of 1- and 2 methylcyclopentadiene to 2-phenyl-g.-benzoquinone affords a mixture of four nd cycloadducts. A single, isomerically pure cycloadduct was isolated by careful column chromatography. Stereospecific reduction of this material with sodium borohydride and cerium(III) chloride 'affords a single, isomerically pure tricyclic diol. The structures of the cycloadduct and this tricyclic diol, established via analysis of their one- and two-dimensionial NMR spectra, were shown to be (1-methyl-5-phenyltricyclo[6.2.1.02,7]undec a-4,9 diene-3,6-dione and 1-methyl-5-phenyltricyclo[6.2.1.0 2 ,7 ]undeca-4,9-diene t.&A-3-=.a-6-diol), respectively. Intramolecular [2+2] photocyclization of this tricyclic diol afforded the corresponding cage diol, 3-methyl-7phenylpentacyclo[5.4.0.0 2 ,6 .03 , 1 0 .05, 9 ]undecane-.exogxa-8,11-diol. Oxidation of this cage diol with pyridinium chlorochromate in dry dichloromethane afforded a single, isomerically pure cage hydroxyketone, 3-methyl-7 phenylpentacyclo[5.4.02,6.03,l .1519]undecane-xA-8-ol-II-one, whose structure was established by single crystal X-ray crystallographic methods.

This study was motivated by concerns within the medical education community regarding the psychometric soundness of current assessment methodologies. More specifically, there is reason to seriously question the reliablity and/or validity of these methodologies in assessing the intellectual skills upon which medical competence is based.

For the problem in lieu of thesis, a series of ten works were created in which a male image replaced the female image; I continued to utilize the same materials, format, and centralized frontal figure. A record of the work was accomplished by maintaining a written and visual journal on progress and outcome. Some research was made into topics related to the work, and the findings from the literature comprise chapter two of the paper. In executing this body of work and researching related topics, I hoped to better understand my conscious and unconscious processes and motivations in creating both the self-portrait series and the new series.

The problem with which this study is concerned is the possibility of increasing mathematical problem-solving knowledge of elementary school teachers and the acceptance of computers in instruction through the use of computers and student-oriented computer software.

Art educators and classroom teachers in the elementary schools are confronted with the challenge of helping children look critically at works of art and develop written and/or verbal skills to communicate their findings. It was the purpose of this study to determine the effectiveness of the conceptual learning technique of semantic webbing in teaching art criticism in the elementary classroom. The author revealed a significant difference of opinions between two sample groups and similarities between the variables of frequency of use, and familiarity of the webbing technique and its effectiveness in the classroom. The sample groups consist of elementary classroom teachers and art specialists who work with kindergarten and first grade children.

Walt Whitman was a feminist, and this assertion can be supported by excerpts from his prose, poetry, and conversation. Furthermore, the poet's circle of associates, chronology, and place of residence also lend credence to the hypothesis stating Whitman's subscription to feminist credos. A pro-feminine attitude is evident in much of Whitman's work, and his ties to the women's rights movement of the nineteenth century do influence the poet's portrayal of women. But the section of poems titled "Children of Adam" proves to be an anomaly in Walt Whitman's feminist attitudes. Instead of portraying women as equals, able to walk a path of equanimity with males, the women of "Children of Adam" are often obscured in linguistic veils or subjugated to the poet's Adamic rhetoric.
