This study is devoted to a critical examination of the architectural structure and sculpture of the church of San Cayetano de La Valenciana in Guanajuato, Mexico, concentrating on the ornamentation of the exterior portals and the interior altar retables. This paper traces the development of the Churrigueresque phase within the Baroque period of Mexican religious architecture and analyzes specific application of this style to the church of La Valenciana. Stylistic and iconographic components are discussed and a review of significant literature on this subject is included.

The purpose of the study was to write a history of the professional career of D. O. Wiley as a music educator from 1921 to 1963. To give focus to the career of Wiley, answers were sought to three questions, stated as sub-problems: (1) What were the important events and influences in the professional career of D. O. Wiley as a college/University band director? (2) What impact did Wiley have on the development of Texas public school bands that earned him the title "Father of Texas Bands?" and (3) What role did Wiley play in the development of the Texas Music Educators Association and other professional music organizations.

Nineteen laboratory strains of Azotobacter vinelandii and two organisms of the same species isolated from water samples were screened for the presence of plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Three laboratory strains and both organisms isolated from water samples contained one plasmid each. The migration distances of the plasmids in agarose gel electrophoresis were different molecular weights. The plasmids were cured by SDS or ethidium bromide treatment of the cultures.

The purpose of this study was to isolate a relatively pure population of granules from the DF and SR of 7 day old rats and characterize them biochemically. If this could be accomplished, the next step was to determine if the granule proteins may play a role in tooth eruption.

Brain-reactive antibodies (BRA) increase in frequency with age in several mammalian species and may be involved in the pathogenesis of age-related dementia. In this experiment, the molecular specificity of BRA in mouse sera was determined using an immunoblot assay, and the relationship of BRA to longevity was studied by comparing the rate of formation of specific BRAs in diet restricted C57BL/6NNia, B6D2F1/NNia, and DBA/2NNia, genotypes which differ markedly in life-span.

The purpose of this study was to develop and field test an audiovisual interest inventory suitable for use in group testing situations where known or suspected reading disabilities are extant in testees. The Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory was selected for use as a model in developing the audiovisual development.

The study was a pioneering effort to research a mix of the combined principles from several different theoretical positions into one integrated model of learning, growth, and development. Sets of principles were based on Human Resource Development field theory of learning, Social Learning theory, Operant Conditioning theory, and Aversive Control Learning theory.

This investigation was designed to study the age-related differences in the survival rates of 2-to 3- and 6- to 7-month-old AKR/J mice after continuous treatment with anti-lymphocyte globulins (ALG), anti-thymocyte globulins (ATG), or rabbit anti-mouse brain serum (RAMB).

The objective of the completed research was to characterize the morphology of individual neurons within monolayer networks of fetal mouse spinal tissue via intraperikaryal injections of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Thirty labelled neurons were reconstructed via camera lucida drawings and morphometrically analyzed.

This study investigated the relationship between visual cues in art reproductions, simple linguistic time vocabulary and children's temporal understandings. During interview sessions, 33 third-grade students attending two suburban schools were asked to place three art postcard reproductions sets in chronological order. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and coded for analysis. Linguistic references used to represent historical time and visual cues within the art postcards which caused students to place art works in a particular time sequence were documented.

The stress protein response (SPR) is a conserved and ubiquitous mechanism that enables cells to tolerate a wide variety of environmental insults. This response involves the preferential synthesis of an array of proteins with different molecular weights. These proteins perform a variety of functions, such as protein folding, multimeric protein assembly, steroid receptor binding, and heme catabolism. To evaluate the potential use of the SPR as a biomonitoring tool, a stepwise plan was utilized that proceeded through various physical and chemical laboratory exposures and culminated with a field validation study. The goals of the laboratory exposures were threefold: (1) determine the time required for induction of the SPR; (2) determine the dose-responsiveness of the SPR; and (3) compare the increased syntheses and accumulations of stress proteins to classical toxicological endpoints (i.e. percent mortality, LC50, LC1, etc).

The lecture recital, presented on November 27, 1978, explored the method of "gracing" employed in the performance of solo violin sonatas in the first quarter of the eighteenth century as exemplified by an unpublished manuscript of the embellished version of Corelli's Sonata in E Major, Op. V, No. 11, by the English violinist Matthew Dubourg. A general comparison was made with other contemporary examples, including in particular Geminiani's "graced" version of Corelli's Sonata in A Major, Op. V, No. 9. Dubourg's manuscript was performed after the lecture.

A 1.57 kb XhoI restriction fragment derived from the TOL plasmid pDKI was subcloned into the E. Coli plasmid pUC19. The complete nucleotide sequence of this XhoI fragment was determined using both the chemical cleavage and chain termination DNA sequencing methods.

Calcium/phospholipid-dependent protein kinase (PKC) was purified from P1798 lymphosarcoma. It was demonstrated that uncomplexed calcium and uncomplexed phosphatidylserine are the activators, that the activation of PKC requires that calcium bind first, that the activation of PKC requires that calcium bind first, that high calcium concentrations inhibit PKC activation, and that calcium inhibition can be overcome by phosphatidylserine.

This study examines how Morton Schamberg encapsulated a significant understanding or European Modernism and created its translation into a unique American style of art known as Precisionism. After his formal studies in architecture and painting and his trips to Europe, he did reworkings of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism before creating important modernist works.

Although the Biennales Internationales de la Tapisserie are widely recognized as important fiber art exhibitions, no history of them has been written. This study endeavors to trace the history of the first through the tenth Lausanne Biennales.

This investigation was concerned with developing a procedure for using nonexpendable pattern materials in ceramic shell piece molds. Literature relating to this study indicated that nonexpendable materials, used in whole ceramic shell molds, had been limited to frozen mercury.

The managerial role of first line academic administrators in the the Alaska community colleges was examined in this study. Academic administrators were surveyed to determine the frequency of performance and perception of importance of 157 selected management activities which were divided into the five functions of management--planning, organizing, staffing, directing/leading, and controlling.

Th ocular bilateral hypotensive effect after unilateral topical administration of medetomidine and 4 analogs was demonstrated in a dose-response study (0.5%-2%) in NZW rabbits (bilateral IOP-lowering efficacy: medetomidine>detomidine and MPV-1440>MPV-1441 and MPV-305BIII).

The problem of this study was the examination of selected case-finding approaches for locating handicapped individuals. It was designed to (1) determine the rank order of effectiveness of selected case-finding approaches, within specific census tracts, in locating handicapped individuals aged three to to twenty-one years inclusive, (2) to project the most effective case-finding approach within census tract areas with specified factors of mean income, median education level, and primary home language, and (3) to determine the probability of locating handicapped individuals by a case-finding approach other than the one determined to be the most effective.

The investigation was concerned with characterizing effects of this tumor line on lipid metabolism in DBA/1J mice and serum protein levels and cellular changes in DBA/1J and Swiss white mice. Total lipids, lipid phosphorus, neutral lipids, and changes in fatty acids were determined in liver, spleen, skin and tumor of DBA/1J mice bearing the lymphosarcoma at various days after injection of tumor cells.

Powdery mildew of wheat, Erysiphe graminis f. sp. tritici attacks wheat during periods of rapid growth, high levels of nitrogen fertilizer, high humidities, and cool temperatures. Yield losses due to mildew are caused by reduction in photosynthesis, increase in respiration and transpiration, impairment of heading and grain filling, and loss of plant vigor and growth.
