Investigation of the Developmental Profile of Chromosomal Proteins in Zea Mays (open access)

Investigation of the Developmental Profile of Chromosomal Proteins in Zea Mays

Histone proteins were examined during development in the meiotic elongate and a genetically close line N6HT. Histones were also extracted from an F1 (el x N6Ht). Comparisonc beteen the histone samples from each line of N6HT and elongate, and the F1 for leaf, root, and stem were inconclusive. A tassel sample form elongate exhibited a markedly slower migrating band that was not present in N6HT. The histone profiles of elongate and N6HT also differed. Each line N6HT and elongate exhibited three protein bands in the H1 region. Maize histone samples have been shown to exhibit four major H1 bands. The possibility exists that an H1 protein altered in its molecular weight and possibly in its interaction with the chromosome is present in elongate.

Heinrich Zille's Berlin: Selected Themes from 1900 to 1914 : the Triumph of "Art from the Gutter"

Heinrich Zille (1858-1929), an artist whose creative vision was concentrated on Berlin's working class , portrayed urban life with devastating accuracy and earthy humor. His direct and often crude rendering linked his drawing and prints with other artists who avoided sentimentality and idealization in their works.

The Effects of EDTA Chelation Therapy on Plaque Calcium and Mineral Metabolism in Atherosclerotic Rabbits (open access)

The Effects of EDTA Chelation Therapy on Plaque Calcium and Mineral Metabolism in Atherosclerotic Rabbits

New Zealand albino rabbits exhibited calcified aortic plaques and maximum average serum cholesterol levels of 1200 mg percent after twenty-three weeks on an atherogenic diet (250 to 500 mg percent cholesterol in ten percent corn oil; 200,00 I.U. vitamin D3 per month). One month following termination of the atherogenic diet, rabbits were treated with disodium edetate (Na2EDTA, 50 mg/kg body weight) via the marginal ear vein, on alternating days for a total of twenty infusions each. Aortae were examined for tissue calcium both quantitatively (direct microcomplexometric analysis) and histologically six weeks after completion of EDTA chelation therapy.

Cindy's Feller: an Adaptation of Cinderella (open access)

Cindy's Feller: an Adaptation of Cinderella

The problem with which this thesis is concerned is that of writing and directing an adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella. This study is a culmination of research on children's theatre, and the writing and producing of children's plays. The research led to the writing of the first draft of Cindy's Feller, an adaptation of Cinderella, beginning with a scenario which utilized a country-western theme. Upon completion of the first draft, the play was produced at North Texas State University during the summer of 1981. Stage directions of the play, a director's log of daily rehearsals, and an evaluation of the final productions were recorded to provide a stimulus for the writing of a final draft of Cindy's Feller and the preparation of this thesis.

The Edition of a Quartet for Solo Double Bass, Violin, Viola, and Violoncello by Franz Anton Hoffmeister, a Lecture Recital, Together with Selected Works by J.S. Bach, N. Paganini, S. Koussevitsky, F. Skorzeny, L. Walzel and Others

A solo-quartet by Hoffmeister previously unpublished was discovered by the author in the archives of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. This work contributes to the modern solo repertoire for double bass, and has considerable musical merit. It is a well written work using cleverly overlapped phrases, counterpoint and imitative writing, and effective juxtaposition of contrasting instrumentation. It lies well on the bass and provides an excellent solo vehicle for advanced bassists.

Mass (open access)

Mass

This thesis is a musical setting of the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Mass: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. It is scored for a soprano soloist, a four-part chorus (SATB), percussion requiring one player (orchestral bells, vibraphone, and chimes), piano, and pipe organ. The text is taken from the traditional Latin and its English translation, the Greek (in the case of "Kyrie eleison") and verse taken from scripture--John 1:1, John 1:5, and Revelation 1:17-18--as translated in the Revised Standard Version Bible. These verses are woven into the musical fabric of the Kyrie and the Gloria and are frequently overlayed with the text of the Mass itself. The text is treated freely with some cyclic treatment of textual and thematic material.

Missa Salve Regina (open access)

Missa Salve Regina

Missa Salve Regina, a five movement work, is approximately twenty minutes in duration. The work is a setting of the Ordinary of the Mass in Latin with additional text in the vernacular drawn from the writings of Miguel de Unamuno. The composition is scored for four speaking soloists (SATB), mixed chorus (SATB, percussion (player 1: tam tam, three suspended cymbal, bass drum, three tom-toms, glockenspiel, maracas, and marimba), and digital synthesizer optionally on tape. The Missa Salve Regina is concerned with the spiritual implications of the mass and its ritual. The music is composed for both concert presentation and use within the liturgy and deals with the conflict between faith and reason in the human mind, discussed at length, by Unamuno.

It's All in the Cards (open access)

It's All in the Cards

It's All in the Cards is an instrumental chamber work consisting of three movements for ten percussionists encircling the audience. The total duration of the piece is approximately thirteen minutes. Much of the rhythmic and melodic material, as well as the form, was determined by shuffling and dealing a standard deck of fifty-two cards. Other computational procedures have been used to achieve the effect of sound moving from one spatial location to another, an effect on which must be regarded as an essential factor in performance of the work.
