With a large number of carbon-carbon spin-spin coupling constants now determined and the dihedral angle dependence of vicinal coupling constants reported, application of this coupling constants data was attempted to a conformational study.

The problem with which this dissertation is concerned is to determine whether the semester unit plan offers seventh grade students greater academic gain in the basic subject areas than does the quarter unit plan. Texas offers school districts a choice of the two plans. This study is unique in that the district of this study has both plans in operation at the secondary level.

The problem of this study was a comparison of the career interests, locus of control, attitude, and achievement scores of community college introduction to business "on-campus" students and "open-circuit instructional television" students. The "on-campus" sample included 102 students enrolled in traditionally taught "introduction to business" classes and the "open-circuit instructional television" sample included 279 students enrolled in the "introduction to business" telecourse offered for credit in four community colleges in a multi-campus district.

This symphony is a representation of the composer's philosophy of life, which includes a belief in a pre-existent life (Beginnings), a mortal life (Searchings and Wanderings), and a life after death (Return Home). Three out of four of the cyclic elements in the Symphony are symbolic. Theme one represents the influence for good which emanates from a living God; motive one represents the influence for evil, or the Devil; motive two represents the influence of Christ. All three of these influences were present in the pre-existence, they are present in earth life and in the life after death, where good will ultimately triumph over evil. Motive three is found in both first and third movements, but has no symbolic meaning.

Devadasi is an abstraction of primitive dance rites for nine dancers and five percussionists. Though based on fertility rites and religious temple ceremonies, no actual representation of events is intended. It it approximately sixteen minutes and twenty seconds long, and is composed in six sections. Detailed choreography for the dancers is not included, but entrance and exit cues are shown, and the character of each dance is suggested by the music. Suggestion for lighting and costuming are also included in the score.

The problem of this study was the examination of selected case-finding approaches for locating handicapped individuals. It was designed to (1) determine the rank order of effectiveness of selected case-finding approaches, within specific census tracts, in locating handicapped individuals aged three to to twenty-one years inclusive, (2) to project the most effective case-finding approach within census tract areas with specified factors of mean income, median education level, and primary home language, and (3) to determine the probability of locating handicapped individuals by a case-finding approach other than the one determined to be the most effective.

The purpose of this study was to test the therapeutic usefulness of a completely self-administered, behavior-therapy technique: systematic desensitization. The method involved the comparison of behavior change following the treatment of two groups of subjects. One group received the actual systematic-desensitization procedure, while the other underwent a similar but theoretically ineffective treatment termed attention-placebo.

This dissertation assesses Leonardo Bruni as an individual in Renaissance Italy, analyzes the general contours of his humanism, and demonstrates the central role played by history in his thought. The sources used include manuscripts and printed editions if Bruni's works, the letters and works of his contemporaries, certain ancient and medieval works, and subsequent scholarship on the subject.

This study is concerned with the motets in an important manuscript of polyphonic music of the first third of the fifteenth century. Although the book appears to have been written in northern Italy around 1430-1433, some of the motet repertory dates back to the last years of the fourteenth century, and, in one instance, perhaps to the middle of that century.

Symphony Number Five is a composition in three movements for orchestra. It is characterized by an economy of materials and a clarity of presentation of those materials. Further, the materials are expressed in a simplistic manner which avoids intricate textural content and complex melodic and harmonic structures. The symphony was chosen as a pattern of structure for this composition since it represents a microcosm of the history and development of musical style since 1760.

The purpose of this investigation is twofold: (1) to examine the trimethylsilyl substituent effect on the ketene functionality, (2) to study the chemistry of the novel unsymmetrical 1,3-cyclobutanediones, chlorotrialkyl-1, 3-cyclobutanediones.

Trimethylsilylbromoketene was synthesized by the tri-ethylamine dehydrohalogenation of trimthylsilylbromacetyl bromide or chloride. This ketene was found not to undergo cycloaddition reactions with activated olefins, such as cyclopentadiene, ethyl vinyl ether and dihydropyan.

Limnological study of Moss Reservoir from May, 1975 through August, 1976 was conducted to evaluate the use of ATP assay in describing planktonic changes within the water column.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aspirational and dissociative reference group influence on consumer behavior. There are two ways in which behavior is influenced by reference groups. First, reference groups influence aspiration levels and therefore play a major role in producing satisfaction or frustration. Second, reference groups influence kinds of behavior, i.e., they establish approved patterns of behavior.

This investigation was concerned with developing a procedure for using nonexpendable pattern materials in ceramic shell piece molds. Literature relating to this study indicated that nonexpendable materials, used in whole ceramic shell molds, had been limited to frozen mercury.

The composition is in one movement for cello and two-channel tape, requiring approximately twelve minutes for performance. The character of the work is aggressive and decisive in nature, with areas of repose occurring only at the beginning and before the conclusion. The title "concertante" is used to describe a concert-piece in which each of the two instruments.

The problem of this study was to determine the criteria and procedures used by superintendents of selected public high schools districts in Texas in the selection of high school principals. This study had two main purposes : (1) to ascertain criteria and procedures that the superintendents of selected public school districts of Texas are using in the selection of high school principals, and (2) to make recommendations to improve the selecting of high school principals.

The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of determining the effect of Biofeedback and/or Relaxation training on psycho-physical measures related to older persons' manifestations of stress. This is accomplished by assessing the differential outcomes obtained from using biofeedback plus relaxation with one group of subjects and relaxation training only with another group of subjects.

The implications of sociobiology as presented in Wilson's Sociobiology: The New Synthesis are examined to determine to what extent 1) sociobiology can subsume sociology; 2) sociobiology is antithetical to sociology; 3) sociobiology reflects a movement within sociology. Basic assumptions of sociobiology pertinent to sociology--degree of determinism, existence of human universals, and definitions of society, culture, and human nature--are scrutinized alongside Wilson's view of sociology as a scientific discipline. The thesis explores weaknesses of both sociology and sociobiology and concludes that sociobiology, in ignoring culture as a source of behavioral motivation, is limited in reducing the sociological perspective to a biological one. Although the two disciplines have antithetical foundations, sociology has already begun to incorporate selected aspects of the sociobiological perspective.

The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the six special military units which were authorized and created by the War Department under the direction of Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. In relating the military history of such special units the study determines what contributions and significance they made to the Union war effort.

A procedure is described for the purification of human erythrocyte aldolase (EC 4.1.2.13). The process involves a specific substrate elution of the enzyme from phosphocellulose followed by a reverse ammonium sulfate fractionation.

Born into one of the most distinguished families in eighteenth-century England, Samuel Wesley (1766-1837) distinguished himself as a child prodigy, an ardent devotee of the music of J. S. Bach, and as a composer, performer and music lecturer. His four extant overtures, written from the year 1778 to 1824, offer an insight into his development as a composer. This edition, drawn from the Wesley manuscripts housed in the British Library, is preceded by a commentary dealing with Wesley's life, the history of the overture as an independent for, and with Wesley's place in the history of English instrumental music.

This theater piece is based on a story by John Updike. It is scored for baritone soloist, chorus, real-time electronic sounds, and a small orchestra (woodwinds 1111, brass 2121, 2 percussionists, organ, handbells, strings 33221). The work also includes actors, dancers, video projections, 35mm slide projections, and special lighting effects. The story opens with the moving of fourteen-year old David and his family is to live on the farm formerly owned by David's maternal grandfather. David becomes disturbed when he reads H.G. Wells account of the life of Jesus Christ, He reacts to this account because it is contradictory in spirit to what he has been taught at church and at home. The story deals primarily with David's attempts to reconcile these conflicts in his mind.

This study attempts to ascertain the status of, the enrollments in, and the offerings available in business education as well as the relationship between business education and other subject fields in grades ten, eleven, and twelve of the Oklahoma public high schools for the school year 1976-1977.
