The purpose of this study is to analyze the musical tastes of the primary children in ten schools within a radius of fifty miles of Bellevue, Texas.

"The major purpose of this study as (1) to revel by means of comparison the extent to which the college freshman and college senior woman is adjusting to the problems and conditions which confront her and the extent to which she is developing a normal, happy, and socially effective personality; (2) to interpret rightly the data collected from the group studies in order that plans for personality improvements may be made, and to offer a working basis for guidance in personality development; and (3) to study the social and economic factors concerning their home background the year preceding their entrance into the college, and to discover the effect, if any, upon the personal and social adjustment of each group."--2.

"The purpose of this study is to analyze health, social conditions and educational environment which affect the educational development of the Mexican children in the Sonora Independent School and plan a remedial program. The source of the data in this study was the survey made by Winters, and a survey of health, social and educational conditions of the Mexicans living in Sonora. The study was limited to the Mexican families and the Mexican children in the Sonora school district."--leaf 1.

This thesis is an attempt to portray the part the forts of the Southwest had in developing the Federal Indian Policy in that region from 1865 to 1885.

The problem which is reported in these pages represents an attempt on the part of the writer to discover whether the music curriculum of the Denton Senior High School is meeting the personality needs of the students of the school. In order to discover a starting-point from which to attack this problem, the writer administered standardized personality and music tests to the students enrolled in her music classes. The results of these tests form the primary basis of the investigation and of this thesis.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current methods of teaching and the available science material for the teaching of elementary science in order to prepare a proposed plan of instruction for the seventh and eighth grades of Jefferson School for the 1941-1942 school year.

The problem of teaching conservation resolves itself into two major aspects--one concerned with content material; the other with school and classroom procedures. The author intends to approach the problem from three viewpoints. First, a need for teaching conservation will be shown. Second, the present practices will be discussed. Third, potential methods and materials will be discussed.

The purpose of this study is four-fold: (1) to present through an analysis of life needs the nature and source of a curriculum best adapted to democracy; (2) to present fairly some of the reasons why a curriculum must be founded on democracy if democracy survives the dangerous forces that threaten to obliterate its very existence; (3) to make an unprejudiced analysis of the regular situation now existing in Oklahoma schools at the present time to find whether her schools are meeting this challenge to democracy; and (4) to offer from the comparison of the summaries of these data recommendations whereby all schools may have a curriculum "rooted in the life of its people"--a program that contributes to democracy and permanent national defense.

The purpose of this study is to appraise the club program as carried out in South Waco, attempting to determine the value of the program in an elementary school.

The problem of this thesis is to determine what affiliated courses are most frequently offered to the students who attend the regular four year high schools in Texas, and to determine the relationship of the subjects taught to the scholastic population of the school.

The objectives of this study are: first, to draw conclusions in regard to the extent the National Youth Administration, the National Defense Training Program, and the Industrial Arts departments of the Texas State Teachers Colleges are making "trainees" of the first two programs and graduates and students of the last division more employable in the several industries that make up our national defense manufacturing mechanism; second, to show by the presentation of the college programs whether or not the colleges are presenting the courses of industrial arts which are most needed by youth in this time of crisis and national defense preparation.

The major purpose of this study is to evaluate the progress in the general reading ability of a group of pupils taught by remedial methods of teaching, as compared with the progress of a group taught by the same methods plus vocabulary building through the definite study of word-clues and their meanings, to determine whether the word-clue method of vocabulary building aids general reading ability.

The problem in this investigation has a three-fold purpose; namely, (1) to reveal, by means of comparison, the likenesses and differences in the personalities of elementary and secondary education majors of N. T. S. T. C.; (2) to determine to what extent the individual is adjusting himself to the problems and conditions confronting him, and how these problems are affecting the development of a normal, happy, and socially effective personality; (3) to interpret the data collected correctly, in order that better adjusted personalities may be developed.

This investigation proposes to present a comparison of two compendiums of philosophy, and in the light of this comparison determine the prevailing types of educational philosophy and practice used in certain schools of southern Oklahoma.

The purpose of this study is to make an examination of current educational trends as found in authoritative books and magazines and to use the traditional school of Edyth, Tahoka, Texas, and the progressive school of West Point, Tahoka, Texas, as special examples for comparison. An analysis of the different techniques used and an evaluation of the merits of each will be offered.

The problem of this study is an attempt to construct a dependable instrument of measurement in the field of social sensitivity. An endeavor will be made to make this instrument sensitive enough to give some degree of precision and reliability to its results. Other attempted methods of measurement applied to this quantity have given results only in scattered generalities.

The purpose of this study is to appraise the opportunities offered to the pupils of Sam Houston school; to gain experiences through self interests and democratic procedures; to develop procedures which may determine the changes taking place in these boys and girls and thereby enable the writer to discover the degree to which the school is accomplishing its significant educational purposes. Suggestions of criticisms will be incorporated; however, it is not the intended purpose of this study to suggest or criticize.

The problem of this thesis is to make a critical analysis of pre-primers, primers, and first readers of ten series of books published since 1938. Examination of books will be made from the standpoint of unusual interest to children, teachability, psychological, and educational soundness of their construction in promoting growth of the individual pupil and his ultimate good as a person and as a member of a social group.

This thesis discusses the formation of the Arkadelphia adult education project in Boston, Bowie County, Texas, and assesses its usefulness in the realm of adult education.

The purpose of this study is to discover through the use of the descriptive evaluation technique information about children's reading which may be of value as suggestions for classroom teachers who teach reading in the intermediate level. It is hoped that through the use of this technique the relation of the reading level of the individual children in a fourth and fifth grade group to the reading level of the material the children would read if left to their own choice in its selection may be determined.
