This study was made to gather information and data to aid the administration of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw School District in making a decision as to whether a vocational industrial education program was needed and if so what courses should be included.

This is a study of numerical control, its application, and the design of a numerical control program for a drilling machine. The study sought to obtain information on the function of numerical control; the different types of numerical control used by industry; and, the advantages of using numerical control.

From a previous study, criteria were developed for use in evaluating industrial arts textbooks for several subject areas in the field of industrial arts. This study is concerned with two of these areas, general metalworking and machine metalworking. It is evident that there are many books published in the United States in the field of industrial arts. The availability and suitability of these textbooks for industrial arts courses in general metalworking or machine metalworking provide the basis of this study.
