This thesis is a study of the evolution of educational philosophy underlying the modern program of industrial arts with particular emphasis upon the contributions of John Locke. The problem is limited to the study of the philosophy and theories of Locke with a brief coverage of Greek, [mediaeval], and modern periods of philosophy. It is impossible to cover in detail all the works of the three historical periods. Only the important general aspects which have a direct bearing on Locke and his influence upon industrial arts are discussed in detail in this study.

The purpose of this study was threefold in nature. The first purpose was to study the life and educational background of Frederick Gordon Bonser in order to gain an understanding of the man and his educational purposes and objectives. A second purpose was to gain an insight into Bonser's philosophy of education; and the third purpose was to examine the available writings of Bonser in an attempt to analyze his philosophy of industrial arts as a phase of general education.

The purpose of this study was to determine the differences, if any, between junior high school and senior high school industrial arts teachers in the seven areas of temperament measured by the Thurstone Temperament Schedule.

The purpose of the study is to develop and propose a system of industrial arts accounting and bookkeeping for the secondary schools of Fort Worth, Texas, if it is found, through the study, that the instructors of industrial arts in Fort Worth, Texas, need and desire a systematic method of keeping financial records.

This is a study of numerical control, its application, and the design of a numerical control program for a drilling machine. The study sought to obtain information on the function of numerical control; the different types of numerical control used by industry; and, the advantages of using numerical control.

Home repairs and maintenance are a necessary responsibility of any person who maintains a home. This responsibility can usually be met in one of two ways: first, someone can be hired to do the maintenance, or the person can do it himself. However, home repairs are costly and at times prohibitive to the average person who maintains a home. Then, too, there have been times in the past, especially during the war years, when it was next to impossible to secure the services of trained mechanics for home maintenance. During such time, and out of such necessity, many people began to make their own repairs and other improvements and, as a result, a gradual "do-it-yourself" movement has invaded all sections of the country. With the changing of times, with money a little more plentiful and manpower back in civilian life, do people who maintain their homes continue to make their own home repairs?

This is a study of the utilization of industrial arts personnel and equipment for school maintenance in Texas secondary schools.

The problem is actually twofold: first, to trace the growth and development of vocational education programs operating in the evening schools of the State of Texas; second, to analyze some of the various types of evening school programs and facilities provided for conducting adult vocational evening schools.

This study was made to determine the contributions of Calvin Milton Woodward to the field of industrial arts. His work will be analyzed so as to prove that his philosophy of manual training is directly related to the underlying philosophy of the industrial arts system.

This study was concerned with corrective and preventive measures available to and used by industrial arts teachers to maintain and control student discipline in industrial arts laboratories.

A study of the economic, social conditions and customs prevailing in England was necessary in order to ascertain the influence of certain woods, and cabinetmakers on the development of furniture built and used during their respective periods. A study of the individual differences found in each wood as to texture, color, weight and geographic location was also necessary for comparison.

This is a study of the qualifications and status of industrial arts teachers in the elementary, junior, and senior high schools in the State of Texas.

The problem with which this study was concerned was that of developing wood stain formulas from a small supply of materials. These formulas should produce a wide variety of colors from which to select, the use of which should be suited to the school or home laboratory.

This is a study to determine whether the teaching of isometric drawing will affect spatial perception.

From a previous study, criteria were developed for use in evaluating industrial arts textbooks for several subject areas in the field of industrial arts. This study is concerned with two of these areas, general metalworking and machine metalworking. It is evident that there are many books published in the United States in the field of industrial arts. The availability and suitability of these textbooks for industrial arts courses in general metalworking or machine metalworking provide the basis of this study.

This study will not attempt to analyze the various types of plastics presented with respect to the chemical ingredients and chemical processes necessary for their manufacture, but it will deal primarily with the selection and use of the various types of plastics as materials suitable for use in the construction of projects in an industrial arts program.

The study is a comparison of junior college plastics curriculums in Dallas, Tarrant, and surrounding counties and the requirements of the reinforced plastics industry in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

This study analyzes the converted scores made on Aptitudes "G" (intelligence) and "V" (verbal" and the raw scores made on Part "H" (three-dimensional space) and Part "I" of the General Aptitude Test Battery by students enrolled in beginning industrial arts courses, advanced industrial arts courses, and beginning English at North Texas State College, Denton, Texas, and the academic grades made by theses same students in order to determine what relationship exists between both the converted and raw scores made on the foregoing parts of the GATB and academic grades.

It has been desired that this work will provide interested students informative reading concerning doorways as a part of architecture. It is hoped that it will be a literary contribution to the beginning architectural student and that he study will provide a point of interest for the further study of architecture and its many elements.

The purpose of the study was to identify the types and amount of industrial and diversified work experience acquired by the industrial arts teachers in the Dallas Independent School District and their opinions concerning the value of industrial experience to industrial arts teaching.

This study is to assemble the available information from the various sources pertaining to the habitat, properties, physical characteristics, uses, and supply of the hardwoods and softwoods available to industry and to industrial arts shops, and to determine the various types used for projects in the industrial arts shops.

The purpose of this study was threefold: (1) to determine what the curriculum offerings were in Texas high schools for General Metalworking I and II during the 1970-71 school year, (2) to determine whether these individual course offerings agreed with the state prescribed curriculum as set forth by the Texas Education Agency, and (3) to determine in what ways the course offerings of the individual schools differed from the state prescribed curriculum.
