Origins of the Southern Conservation Revolt, 1932-1940 (open access)

Origins of the Southern Conservation Revolt, 1932-1940

During the political interlude between Wilson and Roosevelt, the United States was under the leadership of the Republican party which adhered to a conservative philosophy. While this regime continued, conservative southerners were content, but in 1933, Franklin Roosevelt, who had campaigned on the need for a "New Deal" was inaugurated President. Although southerners readily accepted the relief and recovery features of the first phase of the Roosevelt program, they opposed his program of sweeping reform because it constituted an impeding threat to intrenched political and economic interests in the South.

The Effects of Group Membership upon Birth Order Differences in Anxiety and Affiliation

The present study has a twofold purpose. First, it will attempt to ascertain whether ordinal position remains an effective discriminator of affiliative need and level of anxiety within the selective confines of a strong social organization, a college sorority; or whether the selective criterion of membership in the strong social organization tends to suppress the differences in affiliative need and level of anxiety between the ordinal positions. Secondly, it will attempt to further explore the relationship between affiliation and dependency.

Self-Ratings on Traits Associated with Creativity as Related to Performance on Two Tests of Creative Ability

The first objective of this thesis was to determine the relationship between scores on the AC Test of Creative Ability and scores on the Cree Questionnaire. This task was undertaken as a response to the scarcity of comparative data among the few objective measures of creative ability which are currently available. The second objective was to construct a self-rating scale of personality traits shown by past research to be associated with creativity. The third objective was to investigate the relationship between scores on each of the two standardized measures of creative ability and scores on the self-rating scale of traits related to creativity.

Trends and Techniques of Public Relations in Music Education (open access)

Trends and Techniques of Public Relations in Music Education

The purpose of this study represents an illustration of the techniques of public relations in music education as well as the urgent necessity for their development. Especially during; this era, American public schools are faced with the problem of providing a balanced curriculum whose chief interests lie in subjects of a scientific nature. Educators feel that this type of training is not only necessary to keep the nation ahead or equated with others scientifically, but that it is inevitably the best in preparing the student for adulthood. Public school music, in many instances, has not lived up to its responsibilities in providing the kinds of music and the type of community service it should render. Consequently, many educators feel justified in either reducing or eliminating fine arts programs in their schools. It is necessary, therefore, that the music educator study measures of encouraging musical growth in his environment, and this growth can be assured through a study of the techniques and tools of public relations.
