This study examines a change from traditional to modern teaching in the Denton, Texas public schools. Issues faced by adminitation and teachers in three examined elementary schools provide information about the implementation of a plan focused on the particular needs of children in the community.

A survey of the physical education programs for high school girls near Denton, Texas to determine the extent of compliance with state law for physical education, the facilities for the program, training of the teachers, type of physical education program, and teaching load of physical education teachers.

This thesis presents the results of an examination of the Hebron, Texas public schools. Specific criteria, such as home life and socioeconomic background, were used to consider the abilities and needs of students. The resulting information made it possible to determine the ability of schools to impact the lives of students.

This purposes of this study were to discover what the second grade children seemed to consider as desirable companionship between themselves and their parents, and to recognize the apparent needs for parental companionship that seemed to exist among the pupils.

The purpose of this study is to determine what relation, if any, exists between the social interests and participation of parents and the social success of their children in elementary school. An additional purpose is to determine the relationship between occupational status of parents and social success of children.

The problem reported in this thesis was one whose purpose was to determine, if possible, the relative value of gains in civic knowledge, skills, and attitudes growing out of a course in eighth-grade community civics as compared with those derived from a course in traditional eighth-grade history. An interesting phase of the study was the tabulation of losses in civic knowledge, skills, and attitudes and an attempt on the part of the writer to account for them. Chiefly, however, the study concerns itself with progress in social and civic thinking on the part of eighth-grade pupils.

The present study addresses some of the problems in human handedness studies by noting the manual choices of one hundred twenty elementary pupils in the first through fifth grades. It discusses the value of the Van Riper critical angle board, the correlation indices of handedness based upon different types of activities, and the divergence with respect to degree and pattern of hand preference in the children.

"The problem of this thesis is a comparative study of the educational and economic status of fifty government-aided men in Denton, Texas and fifty employed laborers in the same city. The term 'government-aided men' refers to men who receive direct aid from Federal relief in order to live and to support their dependents. Many are members of the CCC camp; but others receive their aid from the old-age pension fund, from W.P.A. projects, or other Federal organizations. Laborers are interpreted as men who do not hold 'white-collared' jobs...educational status is used to indicate the highest grade completed in school...the term economic status means the income of the men under consideration..This study is confined to certain men in Denton, Texas, and deals with only male whites between the ages of 21 and 65 years. The problem is not concerned with what the state should do or should not do, nor does it lead to any solution of existing conditions. It is only hoped that the findings may shed some light on whether or not the educational and economic status of these men under consideration appear to have any correlation." --leaves 1-4.

It is believed that the intangible attributes of living, which can be mearsured neither by rule nor square, make for the well-rounded, happy, social, individual, whether he be adult or child. The degree to which an individual is adjusted socially ranges from the completely anti-social type to the fully-integrated type. The reasons for this gradation are numerous. They include the influence of the home, the school, and the playmates, as well as other factors in the general environment of the child. This thesis is a comparison and result evaluation of arithmetic, handwriting, spelling, and reading goals by students in the second grade at Sam Houston Elementary School in Denton, Texas.

The correlation between home environment and educational performance is addressed in this study.

This thesis presents the findings of research conducted to discover the common sources of conflict between parents and teenagers. Data for the findings came from questionnaires completed by high school students in Denton and Greenville, Texas.

The major purpose of this study is to evaluate the progress in the general reading ability of a group of pupils taught by remedial methods of teaching, as compared with the progress of a group taught by the same methods plus vocabulary building through the definite study of word-clues and their meanings, to determine whether the word-clue method of vocabulary building aids general reading ability.

The problem in this investigation has a three-fold purpose; namely, (1) to reveal, by means of comparison, the likenesses and differences in the personalities of elementary and secondary education majors of N. T. S. T. C.; (2) to determine to what extent the individual is adjusting himself to the problems and conditions confronting him, and how these problems are affecting the development of a normal, happy, and socially effective personality; (3) to interpret the data collected correctly, in order that better adjusted personalities may be developed.
